I was able to secure a free parking spot at the front of the hotel, thus avoiding the $15 parking fee. The room was sparsely furnished, the single longe chair was very hard, no cushions , the bed had 2 pillows. Not cosy, just basic. The bistro for the evening meal had very limited menu and was more like a suburban hotel. If you want no frills, despite paying an average tariff this is for you, however if you are looking for a cosy winter stay, look elsewhere.

Great location to War Memorial and central shopping district, however we would not recommend Mecure, Limestone ave. We travel regularly and are Accor members. This property was shabby, some aspects were dated and I would say run down, which was really disappointing for this chain of hotels. I called Duty Manager into the dining room on the first morning as Buffet breakfast on the weekend was entirely depleted with an hour til end of service. Benches of servery were messy, some hot food dried, some dishes empty, some bread selection empty. Dining room appeared unattended by staff upon arrival, tables were left messy for our entire visit, chairs pulled out, food on the floor. It is not pleasant to sit amongst other people's mess. Day two was similar, and when we asked for tea bags the dining room staff member was curt and dismissive. The hot drinks area was dirty and messy, again I had to ask for missing buffet items to be refilled. Further to this, we understand that gardening must be done, but it was very frustrating to have the noisy, smelly petrol driven blower going in the courtyard garden for over an hour on our second morning. This disturbed our rest. A very uncomfortable bed in our king room and a dark brown sofa chair that was rock solid. Hearing housekeeping staff dividing up the left over, unopened cans of alcohol from the newly vacated room next to ours as we stood in clear view in the hallway, did not instill a feeling of professional housekeeping. Dinner in Olims Bistro was very average and very overpriced. All together an uncomfortable and unpleasant five day stay. Badly done Accor Hotels.

Wedding anniversaries - for 2 couples / celebration for April - 8 and April - 12 - we do this every year - 4 years now

Couples weekend away Canberra - for wedding anniversaries - we do every year now for 4 years - Mercure hotel is a historical hotel - started I think 1927 had a king room with courtyard - parking - Buffett breakfast - each day - complementary drink on arrival - used in restaurant very happy with our stay

A grand old lady but showing her age.

It's been 30 years since I stayed here, and in some ways it looked like nothing had changed. The hotel is grand but showing some old age in parts. The room was good, clean and offered everything we needed for our stay. A couple of little things were attended to and remedied quickly. Check in was quick and efficient. Car parking is at the rear and secure. There is a bistro on site which offers a limited menu but its ok. Not the cheapest place to eat, and attached to a bar which can be a drawback for some. The hotel is quite well located, near the AWM and you could walk to the city centre easily. I would stay here again despite its short comings.

An unrealised opportunity to maintain a "Gracious Old Lady" of Australian Parliamentary History history

IT was not terrible but is was not great! The reception staff were friendly and helpful and that's where it stopped. And there is a new recption desk. The room lighting was so dim it was hard to see anything writtten. There are spotlights at the side of each bed, not exactly useable except for lying in bed and directing the light onto a book. Certainly useless for lighting the room overall. We requested a "Quiet room" but the room faced the street and had two gurgling water-tanks immediately outside the window. The signs of the previous occupant spoke of a room that had not been properly serviced: there was a quantity of fuzzy black hair and used toothpicks in the bathroom rubbish bin, a fiiled-out breakfast order and a sticky spoon with coffee and sugar. The a/c was pretty temperamental, would only operate after several experimental settings. You certainly needed some heat the corridors and common areas were icy cold. Breakfast (Sunday) was strictlt DIY no staff to help at all; warmed up (too long) rubbery scrambled egg and limp bacon that seemed not to have seen a frying-pan, perhaps just hot water? On Monday there were staff and the eggs were fresher but the bacon the same. The only staff that came near our room on Sunday was a nice young woman to "check the mini-bar" (priorities!) .No one came to service our room at all so, we had to live with the aforementioned remains of the previous occupant. This could be such a great hotel (a smaller sibling to The Hyatt?) There was a history of the hotel in the room; very interesting, so much of the atmosphere should be maintained but, instead, it is simply old, dowdy and threadbare. I really expected better of Mercure.
