Updating this review to reflect the effort that was made to address a very unfortunate situation. Our first night at the hotel there was a shattered glass door that forced us to relocate rooms. There was not a similarly sized room available at the time so we were moved to a smaller room for that evening. The following day they were able to move us to a very nice suite that was more than adequate for our family. The suite was good, the service was good and we were provided complimentary breakfast as well as an adjustment to our bill to compensate for the inconvenience. The hotel itself is very nice and located perfectly for traveling to/from Munich as it is adjacent to the main train station and a very short walk into town if you don't want to take the tram.

I was excited to stay in a building that used to be a post office. However, I did not see anything that reminded me of what it used to be. We stayed here with our river cruise group so we did not choose the hotel ourselves. The room had no carpet or rug. This made every movement loud and uncomfortable on the feet. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The room was ugly with purple and gold and cheap looking furniture which did not make me feel like I was on vacation. The room also did not have a view of anything good. It was located near all of the tourist sites and the train station which was convenient. I liked the way the bathroom looked. However, the glass door did not close all the way since there was a 4 inch diameter hole in the door that I assume is the door handle. The bathroom did not have a fan. This means that the person sharing a room with you can hear everything you do in the bathroom. That's not romantic at all. Also, the restroom had very little place to put your items. I enjoyed my breakfast and my husband said his was okay. We both agreed that the service in the breakfast room was excellent. Overall, I would not stay at this hotel again because it was not special and it was expensive for what we got.

The hotel is great with nice facilities and restaurants. The best of this hotel are people working there. I forgot a couple items there and their personnel mailed it to me immediately. Big thanks to Ruzhen, Philine and Zuzana. Very nice bedrooms with pretty decent A/C and blackout shades. It was very quiet, I never heeard any noise. Although area is next to train station, but everything else is top notch.

Generous upgrade but lacking in some areas

We stayed her a few nights and despite a generous upgrade feel the property lacked in some areas; we had a maintenance issue with the bathtub and nobody answered the phones - meaning we had to go to reception to get assistance. Basically 0 loyalty recognition from staff. Also Accor Loyalty program needs a revamp for visitors in Europe, even with a high level status they grant a room upgrade with a category many hundreds of euro higher per night but don't offer included breakfast at a Sofitel with no club-lounge? Seems odd... Rooms are well insulated but the area is pretty poor being close to the main train station with all the problems those tend to attract in Europe these days.

Room was average - not a 5-star experience

We are giving this hotel an average rating. When you book a 5 star you come in with certain expectations. I have stayed in 5 star hotel in several countries and moved to one in Salzburg after staying here. This is not a 5 star property and I would not stay again. I am very disappointed in what we paid to stay at this place vs what we experienced. I would have been better off at the NH hotel on other side of train station. Pros - staff were all kind and the breakfast buffet was very good; nice to have access to fitness center but spa was closed and if you wanted to use it had to go across the street to the LeMeridien. Right next to train station (which could be a con - our room faced the courtyard so it was quiet, but it looked like some rooms may face the train station or a very busy road). Cons - very outdated rooms, not 5 star hotel treatment at all, only one water provided in room per day for two people, no welcome note or treat in room (we even received this at a 4 star in Strasbourg). The room was a good size and I was happy to have a tub, but the room and decor is just odd. The room actually had old plush carpet in it - yuck. And, the bed had some odd topper on it - probably just to cover up a very outdated mattress. I like a softer, plush mattress but this was just odd. We had trouble with keeping the room cool and were provided a fan which helped. I keep using this word, but this place overall is just odd. I would not stay here again if in Munich - I would look to either the real 5 star hotels in Munich or look to the highly rated 4 stars. As I said, it makes me quite sick when I think about how much we payed for this place versus what we received. It was was unacceptable. We paid less for a true 5 star hotel in Salzburg
