LA ROTONDE

La Rotonde is open from 6.30am for our buffet breakfast. We serve both dishes from around the world and regional specialties in modern surroundings. The restaurant also has a pretty outdoor terrace.

Good location but hotel needs improvement and renovation

PROS: The hotel is at a very central location, near the train station and the city center and many of the places we wanted to go to are within walking distance. Parking is also available for a reasonable price and safely located. Rooms are spacious. Breakfast is nice, has good choices and we loved the pancake machine. CONS: The rooms are dusty and felt old. The carpets and sofas were dated. The sauna did not work. The staff kept promising they switched it on, it was warm for a few minutes then it was off again. The indoor pool is small, heavily chlorinated and cold, it‘s also very shallow. It‘s ok for kids but not much for adults.

Central hotel, ok for a stopover. Has aircon which is good. Basic place, nothing special. The breakfast was very short on items. It is not a hotel I would choose to return to. The only thing going for it is that it is within walking distance of the old town.

Big and clean rooms, quiet and clean . Very friendly staff at reception and cleaning. Breakfasts however could be improved in terms of quality and choices for a 4 star German hotel . But other all went fine , thanks

It leaves a lot to be desired except for location

It's a great location; across from the train and major tram station. But as a place to stay, it leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest problem was the inadequate hotel infrastructure. Taking a shower in the morning meant suffering through constant temperature fluctuations, from burning hot to ice cold and everything in between. On two very cold nights, the room remained freezing even though the thermostat was set to the highest. We had to get a space heater and extra blankets. I shared the room with my daughter, and in order to charge 2 phones we had to unplug the tv because the room only had 1 extra outlet. To charge 2 phones and power the space heater, we also had to unplug a lamp. Besides the hotel infrastructure, the staff was completely unhelpful. To get the extra blankets and space heater at midnight, I had to go down to the lobby twice to carry them up. When asked for ice so my daughter could ice her sprained ankle, we were told to call the kitchen ourselves, or go to the bar, things that the front desk had to do after I tried unsuccessfully first. We'll be back in Freiberg because my son lives there, but I don't plan on staying at the Novotel again.

Standard, drab Novotel experience. It definitely doesn't delight.

The location is great for a city hotel, next to Freiburg main station. The rooms are the standard Novotel variety, but look a little dated now. The air conditioning leaves much to be desired (the control unit in the room is for show only). Parking is ruinously expensive (€20 per night), as is breakfast (I'm not sure how many people would be willing to stump up €27 per person when they can get freshly-made, delicious bakery products (with seating) at the station opposite the road for a quarter of the cost. We found the staff unable to smile or help when there was a rush at check-in, but super-friendly otherwise. All in all, one takes it in one's stride as a business traveller as the company's paying, but as a leisure traveller we felt it to be just another revenue-maximising outfit for Accor, which as a chain has probably just grown too big to care.
