Decent option for a downtown hotel

We stayed for just one night back to southern Germany from Amsterdam. The hotel's primary advantage is undoubtedly its location—right next to the Porta Nigra and the downtown pedestrian area. Our check-in experience was somewhat slow. We booked two rooms, but one of the keys was invalid, requiring us to return to the front desk for replacements. Additionally, bed sheets were missing, and we had to wait over 30 minutes for them to be delivered. While the hotel is clean and well-maintained, it requires renovation; the lift, rooms, and other facilities are showing their age. The rooms do not have a fridge and are spacious enough to accommodate four people, though the hotel policy limits occupancy to three. Despite this, the rooms were quiet and offered plenty of space. Parking was convenient, with paid hotel parking available. As a perk of our Accor Gold status, we also received welcome drinks (beer or wine). In summary, this hotel offers a great location, spacious and clean accommodations, and reasonable pricing. However, some updates to the facilities would enhance the overall experience.

The main advantages are the location, being a five minute walk from the main rail station and very large rooms. I imagine that the hotel was very glamourous some years ago, but it is now an ageing hotel with some charms. The rooms do not have a fridge - the space is now sealed sghut, and the safe wasn’t operative. The bed is an issue - there are two old single beds pushed together and there are separate bed covers for each, which are not nice for a couple. The room has a lot to offer with a lounge and two comfortable chairs, in an era when rooms are tiny and have no chairs or amenities. Ideally, the hotel needs upgrading and renovating but the cost is reasonable and it does offer good value. The staff were friendly and I liked this hotel more than the more modern, boxy hotels we stayed at in several other cities on this trip.

Wonderful stay.

Hotel was excellent. The public areas are bright and gleaming. There was a great selection of food at both breakfast and dinner buffet. The room was large and spotlessly clean. The highlight of our stay was one of the waiting staff whose surname is Rodriguez. She was a delight has a smile which brightened the dining room and truly looked after us during our five night stay. The hotel could not be better placed for access to the city centre shops and tourist attractions. Well done Mercure.

Nice view of the Porta Negra, but not from our room, that costs extra.

First, the fitted sheet didn't, and by morning you were wrapped up in it. The bins didn't get emptied every day. The cups and glasses didn't get cleaned. We stayed 5 days and by the time we left you vould see where I had placed my toothbrush ( 5 marks) the room had no information about wifi, how the TV works nothing! The safe was old and needed a key which we lurched high and low for, apparently we needed to go to reception. This is our fith and last stay I this hotel. There are many hotels in Trier so go and find one! The manager will no doubt ask that we give them another try like last time ....but the limit has been reached

Impossible to sit in bed for reading or watching TV

Forget about sitting in bed for reading or watching TV. Reading-lamps are installed in the middle of the bed instead of the sides!. Therefore every time you move, you crash your head against them!. Painful experience, I am afraid. Photo attached.
