I booked a Prestige Suite at Sofitel Victoria in Arschau. The room, breakfast, and a late check-out were all fully prepaid in advance. A few days after my stay, I noticed that the hotel had charged my credit card an additional amount of over €200. There was no prior notification or clear explanation for this charge. When I contacted the hotel, I initially received a vague and unclear invoice that did not adequately explain the amount. Only later was I informed that six additional breakfasts had allegedly been charged. This is not understandable, as breakfast had already been included and prepaid. This was followed by a prolonged email exchange. Several times I was informed in writing that the amount had been refunded. However, more than four weeks later, no refund has been credited to my account. Instead, I was granted points in the Accor loyalty program, as if I had paid only around €170 for my stay..... In summary, I found the billing process to be intransparent and the handling of my complaint to be unprofessional. For a hotel of this price level and brand, I expected a clear, timely, and transparent resolution. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel and will not stay here again.

Christmas markets

I struggled to pick this hotel because there was so many nice options in Warsaw however ultimately decided on this one primarily due to the location for the Christmas markets. Location I would say the location was pretty good. It was located just off Krawkowskie Prezedmiescie which is essentially the main strip and it is beautifully decorated at Christmas. It is a 15 minute walk to the castle Square where the Christmas tree is and then a further couple of minutes or so to the old town square where the Christmas market with ice rink is. The city is very accessible though with buses and trams so actually staying further out wouldn’t really have been an issue. You can get the 175 bus from the airport or get a Bolt for less than £10. This hotel isn’t immediately in the old town though. Breakfast Breakfast was pretty good, buffet style, comfortable and spacious, only one coffee machine though, sometimes they would take a coffee order for you but it was hit or miss. Rooms Room was spacious, beds very soft too soft for me. Bit dated compared to modern hotels now- tv not a smart tv, no real mod cons. Had a bath though which was great after a day exploring. Cleaning service wasn’t great to be honest for a 5 star hotel, no shower gel when I arrived, assumed it would be replenished the next day, it wasn’t I had to call and ask. Ran out of loo roll at one point as it wasn’t replenished and the coffee/milk wasn’t replenished after the first use. No English breakfast tea bags in the room or at breakfast ( loose leaf tea) but you can ask and staff will give you some to take to your room. No main light, mainly lamps so room wasn’t very bright and no desk/chair for working so bear in mind if you are going for business. Swimming pool/gym Nice relaxing pool, water wasn’t the warmest, nice comfy pool beds. Decent gym space. Christmas vibes I chose this hotel because of its location to the Christmas markets, the location was pretty good but as I said you can easily use public transport to get around. The Christmas market was biggest at the palace of science and culture. The one in the old town has the ice rink but not many stalls just mulled wine and drinks. I was a bit let down by the Christmas decorations in the hotel, some fairy lights and an arty looking Christmas tree sculpture thing, no actual Christmas tree. When you go to stay in a hotel at Christmas you want all the festive vibes. I think they have since added a couple of trees since but I felt it was a bit lack lustre. It felt more like a conference hotel than a romantic cosy spot. They had a bit corporate Xmas party one night and I was worried we would get woken up late but fortunately didn’t. It was a nice hotel though it did the job overall we looked forward to returning there each night so a solid overall hotel in a good location just missing the wow factor The BEST coffee spot was Cor coffee just down the road.

Poor breakfast and horrible room service. It took them 2 hours to get the order they never said that they will be late . Front desk did not put me through to duty manager !.. I have booked two suits and still no attention. I do not recommend this hotel I am also dubious how it got 5 star status.

The prime location and the nice view over the square won’t cut it, I’m afraid. The reception desk was besieged when we arrived, the lines never-ending, the whole bar area crowded as well. The suite felt very small (sure, partly due to the 70’s architecture), the room service took an outrageous hour and two phone calls to arrive, and overall, there’s something not-so-very luxurious about the furnishings and the bathroom. Stayed only one night, but it should have been enough to impress. It hardly did.
