One staff member spoiled our stay.

Nice room , good price - ruined by staff attitude at 11.01pm - we arrived back after a concert and taxi back to request a final drink as residents . People still drinking in bar. Told we'd missed last orders by a member of reception staff. ..who then told us with a smile on his face that last orders was 10.45 - 11pm but we could take a drink up to our room. I responded ' so please may we order a drink to take up to our room then? - and he smirked and replied patronisingly ' not from the bar here as it's closed' Won't stay here again because of that.

Has we got to our room we opened the door to smelling of fags. We had not lights that worked apart from the one in the bathroom. The bathroom was very dirty as well. The breakfast wasn't nice at all and there wasn't much out to choose from.

The Ibis in Chesterfield is sadly in need of some investment. My wife is from Chesterfield. When we were married 19 years ago we researched the budget hotels in Chesterfield and the Ibis was our favourite both for location and facilities. Sadly it appears to not have been maintained. The location is still very central, but the hotel is jaded (and I'm being kind). The lift sounds like it will break at any time, I chose to take the stairs to the third floor rather than risk it. In our room the chair, the plastic on the the arms was worn away. The shower head was coming away from the the wall, only one of the two screws was attached. Sadly next time we go to Chesterfield we will stay somewhere else.

We stayed for 2 nights after moving house. We just wanted a bed and a shower to come back to after a couple of days unpacking and getting our new home sorted out a bit. The first night staff 2 ladies were really nice and sorted out the problem with their system that had resulted in us not having a booking. We did get a room and it was dreadful especially the smell. It smelt like a dirty public toilet. The second night we returned armed with air fresheners and fabric spray for the disgusting carpet. The up side was the staff on the first night, and the bar was ok, one of the men the second night was not at all pleasant which added to the overall negative experience.

We stayed here as we were visiting family. I’ve stayed in Ibis hotels previously and they were modern and clean. I can’t say this about this hotel. As soon as we entered the room you could smell sewage. The smell from the drains were horrific. The window was open to try and air the room, but it did not work. The bathroom floor was badly stained with urine around the toilet. The desk lamp did not work. There was a lump of toilet roll that had been thrown onto roof above the bed that had dried in. The curtains touched the heater below the window and was a fire hazard, so we could not switch the heater on. Would definitely not visit again.
