I had a very pleasant stay here. Le Royal McGallery is a very centrally located boutique hotel in Place Bellecour. Many tourist attractions, shops, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. Even the post office is just next door. I found the welcome warm, and the staff professional, helpful and friendly (eg Habib, Maxime, Benjamin, Andrea, Brian, Jisu, Abdenour, Lilian). The hotel was formerly a lovely family residence before being transformed into the Hotel Grande Bellecour, and then Le Royal. So it is a well-maintained hotel with a fair bit of history. I found my vibrantly red room charming, cheery, and quiet, and it was just perfect for a solo traveller. The double bed was very comfortable, and the blackout curtains also ensured a good night’s rest. The bathtub with a shower was also perfect for a good warm soak, after a long day of travelling and walking around the city. Alas, L’Institut Restaurant was closed for renovations for several months, and it is set to reopen by the first quarter of 2026 (if all goes well). I had a nice breakfast at the hotel’s Côté Cuisine. The omelette Jisu prepared for me was perfect. Special mention should also be made about the “memorable moment” that is an add-on experience for hotel guests. Hosted by Benjamin, it was a bit of a climb to the top, so not something for those with health/mobility issues, but surely a piece of cake for the agile. However, ça vaut la peine. It’s worth it. You’ll be rewarded with a panoramic 360-degree view of Lyon city…with a glass of Pommery. It was a pleasant surprise. Benjamin was also happy to point out key sights as I took in the breathtaking view. I also appreciated the recommendations for bouchons and Lyonnaise dishes to try. Based on the location, accommodation, food, level of service, as well as price, I would say Le Royal McGallery offers excellent value. It would serve well as a base to explore the city of Lyon, or even as a short stay before moving into an Airbnb or moving on to another city or destination.

Hotel wymaga gruntownego remontu - pokoje są zniszczone, ściany obdrapane, a meble porysowane. W łazienkach wyposażenie z poprzedniej epoki, w ogóle nieprzystające do marki MGallery. Jak można zakwaterować gościa w pokoju z wanną tak obdrapaną i porysowaną, jakby dzień wcześniej ktoś chodził w niej w szpilkach? Toaleta była malowana prawdopodobnie dwa dni przed naszym przyjazdem - był w niej bardzo charakterystyczny zapach świeżej farby. Śniadanie również nas nie zachwyciło. Składniki może i smaczne i świeże, ale wybór jest bardzo skromny. Widać, że obsługa robi wszystko, by zrekompensować gościom zły stan obiektu. To, co na długo zapamiętam z noclegu to wspaniałe łóżko, z którego rano aż nie chciało się wstawać. W tym standardzie ceny powinny być o 50% niższe - wtedy pobyt w MGallery Le Royal Hotel Lyon miałby rację bytu.

The room was very nice and very clean. The staff was very helpful on place to visit and restaurants in the area. I was told that I could call Canada free but when I tried I was unable to make the call and the staff were not able to find out how to do it. Parking was $60 Canadian per day and the location was in a great location.

The stay can be characterised by the hotel's elegance, its central location, very close to the old town, and the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff (there was no request they could not solve). In short, a delight!

From the minute we stepped in the front door the service could not be faulted. Everyone we interacted with was amazing. The room was very characterful and spotlessly clean. Great bed. Perfect location. The breakfast in the hotel was the best. The freshness, selection and quality were excellent. The staff were great. The best hotel eggs ever!
