Exceptional hotel. Most professional and friendly staff at every level. We had a superior room over looking Bellecour square. Super large and comfortable bed with top quality linen. Good sized bathroom with again quality amenities and soft fluffy bath towels and robes. The staff are first class. We were greeted by name on day two. My husband was celebrating a special birthday and was presented with a beautiful cake at breakfast time. We also enjoyed a glass of champagne ( complementary) to celebrate the day in the gorgeous cocktail bar that evening. Hotel Le Royal is in a perfect location. It is quirky inside with some really interesting art pieces. They have a beautiful room just off the lobby with all sorts of curiosities and beautiful seating. Such a peaceful place to sit and relax in the evening when it is candlelit. The soft furnishings throughout the hotel are exquisite together with some very intricate framed embroidery pieces. Breakfast was a dignified occasion. Beautiful decor together with top quality food beautifully displayed. Both my husband and I are Travel Professionals. This hotel is truly a gem and one of a kind. We have travelled the world and this is really a most memorable place. We wish to thank all the staff we encountered during our stay. Ivor,Ivan and Tristan( front desk and restaurant) are true professionals. Lyon is a beautiful city and our stay at Le Royal was exceptional.

This hotel is situated in a good location close to transport, shops & restaurants. The Old Town is within easy walking distance across the river. Room 305 is beautiful, spacious & full of character. A circular balcony is accessed by 3 French doors, creating a wonderful atmosphere and vista. But in late December, with the maximum daily temperature around 2 degrees Celsius, the room was always chilly. The central heating couldn’t keep up with the cold air seeping in through the balcony doors, cooling the carpet and sleeping area. We kept placing rolled-up towels against the doors to act as draught stoppers, but housekeeping kept removing them. A few proper draught stoppers kept in the wardrobe for this purpose would be useful. This room would be amazing in summer, with the doors left open to allow the sounds from the square to filter in. The bed was big & comfy, with a good quilt and quality pillows. The shower pressure was really good too. The turn-down service was a nice touch, fitting the charm of the hotel. The breakfast room was lovely, with a large selection of continental food and attentive service. The decor throughout the hotel was gorgeous, particularly in the lobby and lounge. The Christmas decorations were tasteful and generously displayed throughout the common areas. Our rooms weren’t ready on check-in, but we were offered complimentary drinks in the bar while we waited. The unique, all-red decor of the bar area was a little quirky, and kept us amused while we enjoyed our wine & nibbles. I really wanted to give this hotel 5 stars, but the room was just too cold. This did, unfortunately, affect the comfort level and overall enjoyment of our stay. (Note: our adult children shared a room down the hall which had standard windows, and they didn’t have the same heating issues.)

I give this hotel this rating because of the hotel employee who checked me out of my room this morning. When I reserved this room, it said breakfast was included. When I checked into the hotel the woman who checked me in confirmed that breakfast was included and gave me the hours and location of the dining room. Then as I’m checking out this morning the woman says the breakfast wasn’t included. I wasn’t super calm about it because that’s just frustrating as hell. But in the end she fixed the problem and all is well. I will say the food at this hotel is good as is the vibe. The beds and linens are wonderful as well. I’d stay here again but they need to get their information straight.

Boutique French charm in terms of style, decor and ambience. The good: -breakfast -location -some staff The bad: - rude incompetent staff who don’t know how use All points to pay for part of bill and checkout, can’t speak English and very simple( male night staff early morning 19th August. -rude female front desk staff during the day shift 18th August. -shower piping burst -pillows requested on making reservation months prior not supplied for two days of a 4 night stay. They were even acknowledged at check-in as being supplied! -in room telephone not working( safety hazard in case of an in room emergency) -in room dining menu unavailable -manager not making any effort to reach out to a platinum All member. An expensive excersise

This hotel is not a 4* hotel. The shampoo/ soap containers on the shower wall were not there just the plastic holders, the bed very uncomfortable, the room ( I had a suite) was very uninviting. It looked rundown vs charming. I wore my socks to bed. Additionally, I tried to change my reservation at check in at 1 am, but was told I had to do it in the morning with the day reception, which was fine. However, the morning clerks said, due to my arrival after midnight they would charge me for the second night. They were technically within their rights to do that, however, that wasn’t what I would have expected from a 4* hotel. Had I arrived by midnight it would have been doable. All in all, I was disappointed in a 600E suite.
