We sprung for a junior suite for our 3-day stay and it was well worth the extra money. There was a comfortable couch facing 2 floor-to-ceiling windows. The windows could be opened and it was quiet outside at night so we could sleep with fresh air. The hotel is centrally located, the staff were very helpful, and the breakfast buffet was more than adequate. Recommended.

Decent hotel but not special. There is no lobby area to speak of so waiting for friends and pick ups is a bit cramped. The elevator does not descend to the ground floor - there are steps up to it although there is a handicap lift to bypass the steps. Staff is helpful. Location is great. Easy walking to most of the main Lyon sights and shopping areas. It is next to a metro station. And it is easy for taxis and Ubers to get to and then to exit to the main thoroughfare to get off the presque isle.

The main draw of this McGallery Collection ‘luxe’ property would be its central location on the peninsula between the Rhone and Saone Rivers, backed up against the prime Place de la Republique which feeds into Lyon’s main shopping/dining drag Rue de la Republique and other shopping streets. Lodgings here will make one see red, as the classical late 19th century structure was last renovated (2013) in moden style with that bold color everywhere. The entrance is on the alley-sized Rue de Jussie with a small foyer leading to the Bar Rouge/Lounge and a small Front Desk serviced by a welcoming, friendly and always very helpful Reception staff. The sole tiny open grill wrought-iron elevator with colorful stained glass sides is photo-charming, though slow with only a 2-person capacity. Reservations are difficult to nail down as well as direct contact with the hotel. Likely due to its prime location, the hotel is in well-used condition. Accommodations are of smallish sizing, but their balconies overlooking the Place de la Republique make them worth your stay in Lyon.

Still waiting for my hotel invoice after 2 weeks!!! Zero response from hotel. Worst MGallery hotel!

Everything was good during my stay in the hotel. Room was clean and spacious. I was given room upgrade due to Gold status. Breakfast room ladies were great and nice people. Good service. Cosy bar area where I got my complimentary drink. However, what left a bad taste was the issue about not giving me my hotel invoice and zero response after I emailed them. This caused 1 star. At checkout, I paid with my credit card and asked if the invoice would be emailed to me like the other Accor hotels. The front desk staff said that she would email the paid invoice to me and verified my email address. After 1 week, I saw nothing in my mailbox. Checked my junk mail folder - nothing. Checked my bank account - successful credit card transaction. I emailed hotel via their official email on the Accor room reservation confirmation email to ask if they have forgotten to do so. (I typically receive email invoice/bill after I checked out - immediately or max 1-2 days). No response for almost a week. I emailed Accor customer service, but it took about 5 days or so to reply to me. The response was that they forward my request to the hotel. I am kinda upset that they did not put any urgency to this matter, as I have to submit this for claims since it was a business trip. And I am still waiting for the invoice. This is just ridiculous. First time having such terrible experience with MGallery hotel, and my only contact is the hotel email that doesn't give me any reply. My previous stays with other MGallery hotels typically include either GM or customer experience manager popping by to introduce himself/herself and giving me their name cards, so that I have direct access to them if I require their assistance. Sometimes their contacts will be on the greeting cards in my room. Carlton hotel didn't do so, hence I kinda have no other contact options except Accor customer service that is rather laggy in their response speeds. Seems like Carlton hotel is the black sheep among MGallery hotels - a terribly bad outlier. If Carlton Hotel management is reading this, please act on this immediately and send me my invoice. Every guest is entitled to receive his/her invoice after paying at check-out. I believe that I have been patient enough to wait for so long, before I decide to write this bad review.

But since you did not receive your bill immediately, you wanted to punish us by giving us 1*. I think you have explained the situation well in your comment and so I will not react further, nor will I react to the violent and rude emails sended to the hotel and Accor services. No one here understands the dimension and energy spent on such messages. When a simple phone call to the hotel would have solved this in 3 minutes. But I just will respond with our apologies. You are absolutely right, and we do not hide it, your first email sent to the reception was unfortunately not answered. Not taken care of by the team. It happened once and you can be sure it won't happen again! When your second message reached us from Accor Customer Care. We immediately took actions; sending you your bill, we apologised to you and offer you 2000 courtesy points. A fair, prompt and appropriate response. To top it off, our response and your message published here must have crossed paths. Dear TripAdvisor community; please be assured that we will always continue to work in a serene atmosphere, listening to the customer and invested in their experience. And that we will redouble our vigilance with regard to the rigour of our teams. We loved out stay at Hotel Carlton-Lyon. It was a wonderful surprise! We spent 5 days here in a room with a king-size bed. The only downside is the lack of storage for clothes in the room, but we got creative. If you are expecting US-sized rooms you will be disappointed, but for European rooms we were very happy. The bathroom is large with a shower/bath that has great water pressure and temperature. The mattress and pillows are comfy. The air conditioner was great during a very warm week. The hotel is amazingly quiet. I never heard anything! Ride the beautifully renovated elevator. Breakfast is so wonderful- include it in the reservation. They have everything you could want for breakfast from bacon and eggs to meat and cheese, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and PASTRIES. The staff are all terrific, but get a drink at the bar (an old-fashioned if you like them) and then go again. Shout out to bartender, Claudia, who made our trip so special. Not only did she recommend a great local restaurant for a Saturday night but then called them to squeeze us in for a last minute reservation at Bouchon des Cordeliers. Much appreciated after a more than 24 hour travel day. This location can't be beat. It is walking distance to so many things including Vieux Lyon (~5 min) and the art museum (15 min). It is a less than 5 minute walk to the bus. Take the C5 bus to Parc de Tete or the International City Center convention center. SO easy! You want to shop? This location has everything... Hermes, Louis Vuitton, UNIGLO, North Face... More nearby cafes, brasseries, boulangeries, patisseries and bouchons than you can image. Rent a bike or an electric scooter. Fun, easy, and very convenient. All in all, we loved this place and would definitely come back. I can't speak to the price/value because I was at a convention and got convention rates that seemed very reasonable. Stay here- you won't be disappointed.
