Wet patch in our room that smelt and looked like urine

Upon arrival to our room, we noticed a wet patch between the two beds, that when we tried to clean it up, turned out to be a yellow liquid that smelt very strongly of urine. A disgusting situation as both my daughter and I had touched it when first determining if it was wet or an old strain. At that point we quickly rang up reception and explained the situation, and they said they would send someone up immediately to provide us with new room keys. It then took at least 45 minutes for that person to arrive while we waited out in the hallway (it was too disgusting to wait in the room). That person gave us a new room key and promised they would contact us the next morning about the situation. They never did contact me during our stay. So there was never any proper formal apology or explanation. While it must have been a previous guest (child?) that did it, the cleaners should have noticed it, and certainly there is no excuse for management to not have contacted us like they promised to. Extremely disappointing.

Neat and tidy. Smooth check in and good overall. Arrived early and got room cleaned and ready. Had two interconnecting rooms and had no hassles. Restaurant even heated meals bought from takeaway joint and service was fine. Room tidy each day and beds were so comfy ensuring a good nights sleep. Lighting was tricky working it out but great once worked it out. Great stay overall with young family!

Dirty Hotel--Dirt on Walls, Stains on Carpet, Roach in Bathroom

We stayed 2 nights at the Mercure Sydney on a month-long trip to Australia. We chose the Mercure Sydney, because we stayed at the Mercure Ginza last year in Tokyo. We were so impressed with the Ginza location (sadly this location has recently closed), that we decided to stay at another Mercure location. Unfortunately, the Sydney location looks better on the outside than it is on the inside. It is also a pale comparison to the Tokyo site. First of all, the carpet was torn and frayed very badly outside the hallway door. Much of this hotel looked very old inside and very poorly cleaned. There was dirt on the walls, which should have been cleaned prior to our arrival. There were unknown stains on the carpet, which could have been cleaned, but had not been. When I went to shower the first morning there, I found a roach in the bathroom. All of these have been documented in photos. Other problems: our thermostat did not work. Luckily, they did come and fix this problem. There was very little facial tissues left in the box. After the first cleaning, they did not put a backup box in the bathroom, so we had to call for more tissues when we ran out. For some reason, they only gave us one wash cloth, so we also had to call for another washcloth. Usually, you get one wash cloth for each bath towel. We had four towels, but on the one washcloth. The only reason that I have given two stars, is that the breakfast was good. There was a large selection. The breakfast workers did a great job at filling the buffet containers, and were attentive to the large crowd.

Very comfortable bed/rooms. Great location. Breakfast is plentiful and great value. Grandkids loved helping themselves. Coffee is good at the breakfast . Pool, sauna & gym are all great. Towels available. Concierge can provide umbrellas if required.. Staff all very friendly and knowledgable

Disappointed! Not a 4 star hotel!

It’s definitely not a 4 star hotel, more like 3 star! These days even 3.5stars have coffee machines (with coffee pods) in the rooms. Disappointed to see cheap nestle instant coffee sachets! No complimentary bottle water either. Carpet from the lifts to room entrance as well as in the room was heavily stained. Not sure how they claim to be 4star! I was going to opt for breakfast but looking at the overall quality decided not to. The only positive was that the staff were very nice and helpful and the location on George st was close to shops/woolies and an alleyway with many nice restaurants. I accidentally walked into a conspicuous narrow street behind the restaurant and found a whole row of street food shops which was packed, really enjoyed the food there.
