We have enjoyed every stay we have had at the Mercure. As we couldn't get into our Fernhill house we stayed for 3 days at Mercure. Your hotel is superb. However your staff are exemplary. Everyone has been so personable and professional. Give a shout out to Fuo, who managed the bar every night we were there. He is awesome as a manager. Such a joy to deal with. NZ needs more people like him. Also well done with your happy hour. Each night involved having friendly chats with various people. We had a great stay. Garry and Deborah (406)

Booked here as free parking on site rather than pay and be right in town.Nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the centre but still only a 30 minute walk , 10 minute drive or a bus stop 5 minutes from hotel. We paid extra for a Lakeview room. We were on the second floor . Would have been nice to have a balcony or be able to sit outside but obviously this was not in the design brief when the hotel was built. Very friendly and helpful check in staff. Enjoyed one of the two spas but did not attempt pool as the water was frigid. Such a shame as a nice looking pool and could have been heated. Why have a pool if it can’t be used? Room was modern, quiet and had a mini fridge and kettle/jug. One of the sheets had an unpleasant stain so we left a note for it to be changed the next day which it was. Housekeeping should have noticed when initially making the bed.

As part of an 8 person tour we were originally assigned a handicap room. This room also had a very unpleasant odor. We told the front desk we were unhappy but they were unwilling to move us. We then advised our tour guide of the situation and the guide switched us to a stunning lakefront room. This however meant someone else was stuck with the smelly disability room with no view. In the end the front desk begrudgingly found another room for them but they had to move twice. Other than the front desk person, everyone we dealt with was helpful and friendly. The bar and South Eatery restaurant staff were terrific. We had one of the best meals of our trip there, and we were North and South over a month's time. Prices were in line with other restaurants but that lake and mountain view will blow your sox off. The property is a good 20+ minute uphill walk from town. If you're not up for that share an uber.

Stayed for 4 nights in February and paid extra for a lake view King room. The view from both the bar and the room were absolutely stunning. It was a joy to wake up to that view! The bar selection and staff were great and it was an enjoyable space to spend some time before and after dinner. That is where the positives end unfortunatley. The hotel looks to have been removated on a tight budget. For a premium room the shower was small and had very low pressure. We were hoping to enjoy the leisure facilities in this 'resort' hotel - unfortunatley the outdoor swimming pool was unheated, and even in the summer was too cold, we didn't see anyone using it. One jacczzi was out of action, so guests had to take it in turns to use the functional one. The sauna is located at the other end of the hotel to the pool area, which makes no sense. The achilles heel of the hotel is the breakfast. We knew the hotel is a good walk from the town centre, so we prepaid breakfast for our trip which was an unfortunate mistake for us. This breakfast was the worst breakfast offerring I have ever seen in any hotel. The breakfast room was filthy each day with crumbs and debris all over the tables and carpet. The quality of the hot food, coffee and juice was exremely budget and unpleasant. There was no fruit except for fruit salad and peaches from a tin. No yoghurts. For the four mornings we were there the same inedible scraps of cheese were on display. At least they had some pastries that they had heated up....oh wait!...on our last morning they had none of those either! Overall this hotel was not good value for money and I will not return.
