Our reception was not as warm or welcoming as we have come to expect from other Sofitels around the world. Also although we booked a basic room the room we were given was very poor despite being a platinum and lately gold Accor member for many years. The room (336) was in poor condition- the air conditioning did not function properly, the furniture was poorly maintained, the wardrobe door handle was broken and useless and when we wanted to go to breakfast in the morning the room door lock broke and we were delayed until a maintenance worker could attend to fix it as we could not leave the room with an open door. All of this is far below the standard we have come to expect from Sofitel. When I discussed this with reception staff they did act swiftly to find another room for us that was much improved. Apart from the initial welcome all other staff were friendly, courteous and very helpful. We stayed for 5 nights and used the Royal Bar, the pool restaurant, the Terrace bar and the Corniche restaurant. All provided very good service, well presented and enjoyable food and drinks. Housekeeping was excellent, thorough and unobtrusive. Reception were very helpful in organising a late checkout for us as we had a late afternoon flight from Luxor. Overall the experience was good but the initial issues should have been addressed before we arrived.

We loved our stay at the Winter Palace, from the pick up at the airport to the amazing sight we witnessed when we opened our windows onto the balcony overlooking the Nile. Shout out to the guys working in the bar who remembered what we drank after the second day. We loved the food at the pool - best salad nicoise ever. Just a small suggestion - it would be a good idea to have a dish of the day in the restaurants in the evening.

What can I say? Every need was met during our stay at the Winter Palace. From the moment we were greeted by the doorman to dining room staff to housekeeping staff to the pool staff to the check in staff, we were always greeted with a smile and a desire to ensure we were happy. The grounds are gorgeous and our garden-view balcony room was very spacious and comfortable.
