A well run city centre hotel. It is within walking distance of the station and close to the cathedral, museums and numerous eating places. We were very impressed with the buffet breakfast which had every possible choice that we could think of! We just stayed for one night as we were passing through the city. However we would certainly return when visiting Cologne again.

Good hotel, but not great if you have bad hips!

Lovely hotel with good soundproofing because the city at night is noisy! The breakfast was lovely with a really good selection of different items. The mushrooms and fruit were really good. The bed was comfy, but rather high. I have a dislocated hip with some arthritis in it and a total hip replacement on the other side, the shower was hard to get in to with the high bath side and rather dangerous to get out of.

I have written a lengthy review to their website before complaining with the hotel, this led to no where, only a promise that “we will be looked after on our next stay”, which will obviously not happen, here an excerpt: Check-in took very long, due to a member of the check-in staff explaining (which was not prompted by the customer) the whole town of Cologne and places to go. Staff was generally dismissive and not friendly at all - only at check out I met a nice person - too little, too late. (Only offered something free in the kiosk, no thanks) There was a sewer smell on the Ground floor, which was horrible and very concerning. It was acknowledged by the staff, but brushed off. There was also a smell in the shower of stagnant water, which was more than unpleasant. In my opinion, these foul smells are possibly a health hazard and concerning, definitively not acceptable for a four star rated hotel in Germany. To top it all off: there was a punctured pillowcase on my bed and the towels smelled horrible. The room was tired and extremely noisy, so sleep was hard to come by, on top of that a false alarm at 7AM was triggered by someone und the whole hotel had to be evacuated.

Stayed here during our trip to cologne before moving to Essen to attend a gig. We were meant to leave from Essen to Köln airport to come home however our flight was cancelled and we managed to book back at the Mondial until our rebooked flight. Staff were fantastic throughout both stays. Lovely spacious and comfortable rooms. I don't think I've ever slept as well in a hotel. We ended up in a Dom view room during our flight cancellation, what a view to wake up to. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back

A pleasant hotel but one where practicality is not the top priority

The Hotel Mondial am Dom Cologne MGallery suffers from the same affliction as many hotels do these days - spending too much time and effort on the design and not enough on the hotel parts. Consequently, our stay here would have been first massively improved by the addition of working air conditioning. When you came back to the room, it was clear that it had attempted to work, but the humidity climbed as soon as you got in the room and wouldn’t recover. We just kept the window open. Secondly the shower. Very few people want to be watched in the shower through a halftone version of the Dom. But here you have no choice. There are no curtains or blinds around the shower, and it looks out into the rest of the room. Odd. Aside from that, we asked to have the shower gel filled up and they just added about enough for a couple more showers, which seems stingy to say the least. The conditioner bottle was also “conveniently” placed outside the shower cubicle. The bed was also incredibly squeaky! Some of the legs were not straight and it seemed the ones in the middle of the bed didn’t touch the floor. On the good side, everything was clean and all the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. But please next time think about how your guests use the hotel, not just what they see.
