Pros: Clean hotel Well-appointed room Excellent location near ICC (Sydney International Convention Center) Great breakfast buffer. Cons: The. Damn. Music. In. The. Dining. Area. It's the worst kind of 80s music -- the unoriginal, sappy stuff. The volume is too high so that if you're on a zoom, people can hear the damn music. Minus one star for that. How bad is it? You know that song people play as a joke -- Never Going to Give You Up by Rick Astley? They actually play that here. Dear Novotel: if you want to create a vibe, have more modern music, no vocals, lower volume. Pro tip: Led Zepellin works great to detox from lousy 80s pop. -- What else? There was a USB port that didn't work. That was a surprise to have a phone not charged. Definitely check that your phone is charging. The WiFi is really slow, too. The coffee machine overflows if you get an Americano. So, put a plate under it. But what's weird is that when I politely pointed this out to the staff, they responded passively, "yeah, it does that." Not, "hey thanks, maybe we should get bigger cups." For all that, minus another star. Even with these hassles, I'd stay here again unless I found something better.

It has a great location, very modern rooms and delicious breakfast with live cooking omelette station and great barista made coffees! We also truly loved the club lounge on the top floor open daily for a cup of tea/coffee and nibbles and aperitivo time in the evening offering free wine/beer, buffett style pre-dinner snacks with wonderful views of Sydney's harbour. Our stay wouldn't have been complete without the imperative kind help from the concierge staff member "Kane" who truly went out of his way to assist us in everything that we needed! He is such an asset to the hotel!

After a long flight from California, and arriving in the early morning HOURS before check in, we were met by Anna (from England) who was absolutely lovely! We paid for an early check in and she was nice enough to give us a room with a beautiful view of the harbour. Later that day, we had a knock on the door. She had sent up a lovely dessert and a hand written card. She honestly made our stay!! My kids and I are still talking about her a week later. The breakfast was delicious. Staff were fab. We really enjoyed our stay! We will definitely be back when we are in town next! I do hope this message will be passed on to Anna.

Nice hotel, nice breakfast, and decent location

While not a perfect location, the location is reasonable. Depending on where you plan to visit in Sydney, you may end up doing a lot of walking or taking taxis. The breakfast buffet was good, but we didn't try the restaurant for any other meals. The shop that sells drinks was always closed during the afternoons when I tried to make purchases. However, there was a mini-mart across the street that one could easily walk to, if need be. The rooms were roomy, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped.

I had paid $1175 AUD for a 4-night stay (including breakfast) to attend a conference. Unfortunately, I got very sick only days before and could not travel to Sydney. I contacted the hotel to see if they could refund anything in the circumstances, and sent them a medical certificate. The only option I was given was to return to their hotel within 3 months, which is not possible for travellers like me from far away. So they are effectively cashing the entire payment. The airline reimbursed most of my ticket, and even the conference organisers returned my participation fee. I would have understood the hotel applying a penalty, maybe even keeping the cost of the first night. I would have also understood being billed if I cancelled without justified cause. But they are effectively keeping a huge sum of money for what would be a small inconvenience, and one that was beyond my control: I was sick as a dog on the day of travel. Accor hotels makes billions in revenue so for them $1175 AUD is nothing. For an individual it is a huge amount. I even asked whether it would simply be possible to extend the validity of the credit for longer (say a year) so that I might actually have a chance to return to Sydney. It is far from an ideal option, but certainly better than having to return in 3 months. They would not even do that. Apparently $1175 AUD expire quickly in their hands! While I expect to travel to Sydney in the future, I will never book the Novotel again after this experience. From other colleagues staying in the hotel, I heard there are many better options nearby. Don't bother with this one.
