Road works and constant drilling

Getting to the hotel by car was a nightmare as large parts of Broad Street are closed with roadworks to install a new tram system. While this isn’t the fault of the hotel it would have been helpful if an email with clear directions had been sent out after booking as the diversion signs are useless. When w3 arrived at the hotel there was a sign in reception warning guests that new TVs were being installed and that there may be occasional drilling noises between 9.00 and 17.00. The drilling was constant and was accompanied by loud hammering noises (presumably when rawlplugs were being hammered into the newly drilled walls. The drilling was still going on at 17.30 when we left our room. If we had known in advance that significant work was going on in the hotel we would probably have booked somewhere different.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Novotel. I can assure you that we take our guest's comments very seriously as we strive to continuously improve the service of the hotel. Please accept my apologies for the noise due to the maintenance works being carried out in the hotel which will end by 26th March. However, I will address your comments with the relevant departments and can assure you that constructive action will be taken to minimise the noise and that it finishes at 17:00 sharply. Moreover, I would suggest to always check road works on your route and local travel restrictions before starting your journey. Once again please accept my sincere apology and I do hope we have the opportunity to better serve you on your return to Birmingham. Kind regards,

Not the best Novotel

We have stayed in 3 Novotels in six weeks, this one came 3rd! Poorly staffed, although the staff were extremely pleasant, there just wasn't enough to deal with the crowds. Apparently, they were not aware of a concert that was in the major venue 10 minutes walk from the hotel! Not the greatest breakfast either, there wasn't much fresh fruit, the serving area was small and cramped and only one drinks machine. We had an Executive Room which needed updating. The bathroom was lovely but the separate toilet was scary! It was like sitting in a prison toilet! The hotel was brilliantly situated. For that reason, I would probably stay again if visiting Birmingham.

I have stayed here a couple of times, but wouldn't put it on my list of favourites. The front desk service is very polite, the rooms were clean and well appointed and there is an underground car park. The "upgrade" to a superior room is not worth the price - unless you desperately need a dressing gown and coffee pod machine for the night. The rooms all appear to be the same size - small. The restaurant is impersonal - I've been in better Ibis facilities - and the bar is no better. Again, the service was good, but the hotel does not feel inviting. I should also add that the car park only has stair access, so tough luck if you are disabled or have heavy luggage. Even if the lift did go down to the basement there is a 6" to 8" step between the car park and the stairwell. To cap it all, 2 weeks later I am still waiting for them to provide me with correct invoices.

OK hotel with ok price, good location

Been in this novotel maybe 20 times in past 15years. Location in broadstreet is good, lot of restaurants on area. Especilly best italian in town Del Villaggio. 12minutes walk from new street. Price was rather cheap in january. Hotel is nice but rooms starts to need something new.

Excellent location and fantastic staff very friendly and more than happy to help with any problems. Was a bit quiet in the hotel despite it being between Christmas and new year. Easy to get into the centre of Birmingham and other local facilities

Unable to Provide Simple Information

I made a reservation at the Novotel Birmingham restaurant for Christmas day and booked 2 nights. The room was fine, but the restaurant booking was a total shambles. After making the booking 2 weeks in advance for 4:30pm for 3 people, I then get an email on the 19th December to say that they don't take bookings for the restaurant and they are not having a Christmas menu. When I came down for the meal, I'm told the restaurant doesn't open until 6pm. However on the card they gave me when I booked in, with all the information for the hotel it said the restaurant was open from 6am-10pm. No one seemed to know what was going on, or at least they didn't tell me. My family and I were very disappointed with the lack of organisation. Then at the restaurant I was sold wine that was corked. They did replace it from a newly opened bottle and gave my family some free drinks. I won't be rushing back there.

Great location if your going to the Birmingham arena or for shopping we did both lots to see and do, a great central location, plenty of restaurants and bars all within walking distance of the hotel which as the benefit of on site parking.

The stay is again lived up to the British Novotel standard. The rooms are outdated in decor but on the whole comfortable, warm and served by friendly helpful staff. Breakfast starts at 6am during weekdays and the bar opens 24 hours.

Friendly and very efficient check in and check out, they even managed to sort out a couple of issues caused by my client extending the time they needed me for. Great breakfast too. Bar could do with a better range of bitter/ale

Decent location but hard to get to because of toad works. Room had no frills - basic toiletries and no bottled water. Noise insulation poor with lots of rowdy children not the best. Service efficient but not friendly. Bar way over priced.

We stayed for one night with our 12 year old daughter. The room was well presented and there was a made up double sofa bed. Hotel very convenient location. We were on the 5th or 6th floor and facing the back but there was still occasional noise from revelers during the night but being so central to Birmingham we expected that and it was not too disruptive. Comfy room. Our 2nd stay and we would stay again.

Really nice hotel and a very good price. Friendly staff and really are accommodating to their accor members. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, if it wasn't so far away I would look to visit this hotel more often!

I'm not one for highlighting poor hotels and I always leave a good review where its deserved and never a bad review but I cannot let this one slip. After a 4 hour drive having a nightmare trying to get into the hotel due to road works close by I checked in around 8pm I put my bags down and first thing I wanted was room service with a nice beverage. I dialed for room service 3 time with no answer, I then tried reception again with no response. I then called the hotel from my personal phone to make them aware that I could not get an answer, the lady picked up asking for my room number and replied "2 minutes" I then waited another 35 minutes before I decided to go downstairs in my socks after putting my clothes back on to be walked to the restaurant to place my order. The service was good and pretty quick walking into my room with a grin on his face and commented "You must be hungry" I liked his sense of humor if I was in the mood I would have tipped him! Poor stay and if I have a choice to stay in Birmingham again for business I sure wont be staying here.

Great location used to be regular visitor hotel visited after 12 months so many new faces. Dal and chad left new staff no personality and to the point. Would only stay again in view of convenience pay the extra and stay at Hyatt top class service from staff. Work going on broad street stats early

I don't think it's a good idea to have the children's game tables so close to the bar. A quiet pre-dinner drink was not achievable as three tables were being played by screaming kids. Not impressed !!

My wife and I stayed here as our son was competing in the English Schools finals. Some items were missing from the room but this was corrected by the ever polite and helpful staff. My wife and I have previously stayed at this hotel when going to concerts at The Arena. Service and staff excellent Breakfast very good

Couldn’t fault our stay at novotel, birmingham. Staff were friendly and polite upon arrival. Room was clean and beds were very comfortable. Liked the fact there was a little fridge in the room as well. Slept great!

First time at this hotel and very pleasantly surprised. Staff all helpful and much better than staff in other areas of the brand. Ideally situated for Arena Birmingham. It did just what we wanted and are likely to return.
