Well situated, modern hotel and rooms very comfortable. Renovation will certainly make things even better! Staff very friendly, the bar was perfect for relaxing with Yani the cheerful barman and good playlists for an enjoyable drink ! I recommend this hotel !

I am a travel agent so couldn't not share my review for this hotel. I have been speaking with the Novotel staff Off Grand Palace and they couldn't be more helpful. They assist me with booking hotel transfers to the airport, cared for my clients during their stay and also arranged for some beers to be placed in the room upon arrival for my client. Will book with Novotel in the future for my clients and myself!

5th stay, and finally seeing improvements

As mentioned in the title, this was our fifth stay at the Novotel Off Grand Place, and we were excited to finally see some improvement in the rooms. We were only staying at the hotel for 1 night (17 hours, to be exact), so we were fortunately not inconvenienced by the noise of the construction. I can imagine how frustrating it is to be bothered by construction noise while on vacation though, and like the pp, I would not be happy. That being said, given what the hotel rooms looked like a few years ago, the renovations are a VERY welcome change. Our room on the 4th floor was spacious, with a great view. Unfortunately the bed was extremely uncomfortable, and small, but tolerable for a 1-night stay. Front desk staff is still unfriendly (guess some things don’t change!) and uninterested in the guests, but realistically, this hotel is all about the location.

Worst hotel staff ever.

The hotel is centrally placed. However, when we arrived at 20:00 at night the room was not ready. The staff actually gave us the key for somebody else's room. We had to wait till 22:00 to get to our room. The reception staff during our stay were arrogant and not helpful at all. Due to the wait we were given a free drink. When we tried to get the drink we were told by the bar tender that there were limitations on what we could order and could only get a glass of cheap red wine. It seemed that the reception and bar staff were there only to flirt with one another. Avoid this place there are other hotels in the immediately vicinity.

Never Have I Felt Less Welcome At A Hotel

I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights with my sister in early December. Since my sister is battling cancer, we paid extra for a centrally located hotel so she wouldn't have to walk far. The location is great--right near the Centraal train station and the Grand Place--but that is the only positive thing I can say about this place. As many guests have pointed out here, the hotel was under construction while we were there--and I mean MAJOR construction--no lobby, elevators not always working, loud noises, etc. And of course we had no idea of this beforehand. But instead of trying to make it up to their guests for this MAJOR inconconvenience, the main message I kept getting was that Management did not want to lose any business during this construction. They cared nothing about guests, as long as their rooms were filled. But not all of my complaints are the result of the construction. Where to start? The first room they gave us was rather Spartan--the TV remote didn't work, few toiletries were provided, and we got ONE 500ml bottle of water, for two people. This last wouldn't have been much of a problem for me, as I am usually fine drinking hotel water, but this hotel's water was just awful. Exhausted from our journey, we unpacked, which was a large task for a 7-night stay. Soon, though, we noticed that the room was getting cold, and the thermostat didn't work. To his credit, the man at the reception desk quickly confirmed that the heater was broken and moved us to another room--after we had to pack up all our stuff again and move it ourselves. For this inconvenience, I asked him if we could get a complimentary breakfast buffet for ONE day, but he said he'd have to ask his manager. He never got back to us. The next day I asked the young lady at the desk the same thing, and she immediately comped us breakfast for the next day. The bottom line is, I had to ask, TWICE, for a free breakfast to make up for an inconvenience. Well, at least the TV remote worked in this room. And we even got hand cream! The housekeeping was also done at odd hours. We arrived at our room at 4:30 one afternoon, tired and chilled, but as we approached our door the housekeeper quickly ran to our door and said she was about to clean our room. When we asked the person at the desk where we could go while our room was being cleaned, he sent us across the street to the Ibis hotel. Now, THIS was what we should have had all along, and what we had paid for--a warm, comfortable lobby to sit in, and even free cookies! The contrast with the Novotel could not have been greater. One housekeeper knocked on our door at 8:00 in the morning! Now, I don't blame the housekeeping staff for cleaning very early and late; my bet is that they are understaffed because management is too cheap to hire enough people. Then there was the banging that began at 8:00 on weekday mornings . . . . To the hotel management team: Please do NOT respond with your useless "I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay, etc." reply!!! If you are truly sorry you cheated us out of a pleasant hotel experience, please refund some of our money. Only then would I believe you are sorry. Please avoid this hotel. The management truly does not care about its guests.
