ibis Bourges 3 estrelas

We stopped here twice in October 2021. The satnav tried to take us down one way streets but we managed to find it! Great central location - you can stroll into the old town following the hotel map and guiding yourself. A very pleasant visit. On the first visit we rejected one room because there was an unpleasant smell from the bathroom but the replacement room was fine. We booked twin beds but I agree with a previous review about them being a double bed in all but name! On both visits breakfast was great. On our second visit we had an evening meal because few restaurants were open on a Sunday night in late October but it wasn't very memorable and the price for a mediocre glass of wine was expensive. On our second visit we also had the same problem with smells from the bathroom and a toilet that did not flush very well. On checkout we met someone else who had the same problem. I hope that they have fixed it now. Parking was no problem in October but I can imagine that it would be difficult in the season. We lunched at La Mere Poule in Bourges which we really liked. Overall - a mixed bag - some good and some not so good.

This hotel is not set up for twin beds - although it sells twin room stays. The beds had no space between them at all (literally none - it was basically a double bed with two mattresses) with one being up against the wall. This meant one person would have to climb over the other to get out of bed. The member of staff who came to look pushed one bed one way - this meant the lamp actually sat on the mattress near the pillow - and pushed the other mattress the other way - this meant that bed was actually sitting on top of the bedside cabinet which was not moveable. This then gave us about 2 inches between the beds.

We were absolutely blown away by the service our favourite hotel provided. Having to head for home 2 days previous to our original plan. Unfortunately the Ibis in Bourges was fully booked.Nevertheless Shannon, the hotel receptionist, bent over backwards to help us online, via email. She rang other hotels to see if they had vacancies and finally, thanks to a cancellation, managed to book us in… at the time we were travelling from the Pyrénées. We were absolutely delighted with the service! Thank you so much again Shannon! You were an absolute star!

Lovely town, if you go during the medieval festival which they hold annually around June. Aside from this there’s not many things to do, other than admiring the architecture and the park besides the cathedral. I would advise to book an Airbnb for the full experience.

This Ibis (NOT a Styles) is a good, clean, comfortable hotel, situated very conveniently close to the heart of this historic city, but in a quiet location. It has very good, easy, free parking, and lifts. The staff were polite, the breakfasts were standard Ibis, but good and well-served. The rooms are clean and without frills, absolutely fine if you are looking for a secure comfortable base from which to explore, and the proximity of the hotel to the sites is a huge bonus.
