Why stay in a port hotel?

Whether you’ve got an early ferry crossing over the Channel or you’re setting sail on a cruise around the Norwegian fjords, booking a room in a port hotel can sometimes be your best option when it comes to finding comfortable, contemporary, and affordable accommodation for before or after a long journey.

Port hotels are usually more convenient

If you’re travelling onwards by ferry or cruise, staying at one of our AccorHotels in your departure port can be a very convenient and often cheap accommodation solution. Begin your holiday early by enjoying an evening out at eateries and entertainment venues close to your hotel before indulging in a restful night’s sleep in a comfortable and stylish suite or room.

They can make your trip less stressful

Just like airport hotels, staying near your cruise or ferry terminal if you’ve got an early departure time can make the whole travel experience much more relaxed. You won’t need to risk getting stuck in traffic jams or missing public transport connections, plus you’ll find most Accor port hotels are typically located within walking distance of the terminals themselves.

Port hotels are often in some truly fascinating locations

Some of Europe’s ports have been bustling centres of trade and commerce for centuries, meaning they’re typically packed with awe-inspiring history and culture. Why not extend your stay and enjoy a few days of sightseeing during a port city break?
In the UK, you’ll find Ibis and Mercure hotels right in the heart of port cities like Portsmouth and Southampton – both of which are home to numerous heritage sites and some fantastic restaurants. Further afield, you’ll find coastal cities like Rotterdam are bursting with brilliant attractions and cool, cosmopolitan cultural scenes which are well-worth exploring over a long weekend.

European Port City Break Ideas

Southampton

This exciting port city on England’s south coast is not only the jumping-off point for multiple ferry connections to France and the Channel Islands but also a great destination to explore if you’re interested in Britain’s naval and aeronautical history. Reserve a room at the Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel to be within easy reach of the Solent Sky aviation museum and the Southampton SeaCity Museum that’s home to extensive exhibits on the ill-fated Titanic.

Boulogne Sur Mer

Enjoy a French seaside resort break at this bustling city located on the country’s north coast. It’s one of the largest fishing ports in France, meaning you’ll have ample opportunities to tuck into fresh seafood and even relax on the city’s central beach in the summer. Reach Boulogne Sur Mer by ferry from numerous UK ports and stay in one of three conveniently positioned Accor port hotels.

Brugge

One of Belgium’s prettiest cities, the UNESCO World heritage Brugge is awash with cobbled lanes, medieval buildings, and plenty of taprooms pouring local Belgian beers. As well as a handful of Accor hotels in city centre locations, you’ll discover an ibis Styles in the Zeebrugge port district, just minutes from the popular Seafront Zeebrugge maritime museum.

Stockholm

Sweden’s capital and a major Scandinavian port city, Stockholm is an amazing holiday destination. Whether you fancy a few days admiring the bright architecture and unique attractions on its inter-connecting islands or you’ve booked yourself a fantastic fjords cruise, you’ll find our contemporary ibis Styles Stockholm Odenplan Hotel handily positioned in the heart of the city.
