Stockholm University Visitors Guide

In the heart of Scandinavia lies Stockholm University, one of the world’s top 100 and a leading centre for research in science and human science. If you’re visiting a friend or family member at Stockholm University, you’re in for a real treat.

The university caters to 33,000 students from all over the world. With 1,700 courses available covering everything from science and social science to humanities and law, and plenty of masters programmes available in English, Stockholm University is a brilliant place to study.

Where is Stockholm University?

Courses usually unfold in the main campus, which is in the Frescati area of Stockholm, just north of the main city. The campus is set in the National City Park, the first space of it’s kind in the world. Open fields, parks, beaches, and – of course – university buildings. The park is also home to a wealth of local and foreign trees and flowers, making it a wonderful environment for students and visitors alike.
Many parts of the campus have a history dating back to the 18th century. We particularly love Bergius Botanic Garden, which has been in it’s setting at lake Brunnsviken since 1885.

It’s easy to get to Stockholm University form the city centre, with metro trains and busses travelling from several areas to the main campus every day. If you’ve visiting form the UK or overseas, why not book a hotel near Stockholm University and add to the convenience of your trip?

What to look out for

Stockholm University’s buildings were designed exclusively in a Swedish late modernist style by important architects David Helldén, Ralph Erskine, and Carl Nyrén. Be sure to take note of the style as you explore the main campus. With its natural backdrop bringing the buildings to life, it’s a location like no other.
The artistic offering at the Frescati campus is also impressive, with pieces from the collection displayed both inside and out. The university sculpture park is a good place to spend some time, while the Spökslottet building contains paintings from as early as the 1500s.
