Go wild at WOMADelaide

The wonderful World of Music, Arts & Dance (WOMAD) festival was founded in the early 1980s and the Adelaide leg of the festival has been running since 1992.

This March, WOMADelaide will run at Adelaide's majestic Botanic Park.  Head along if you want to catch performances that run for four days straight from Friday March 7 until March 10.  On the Friday, performances will begin at 6 pm and for the remaining three days they'll start at midday. Festival attendees are encouraged to bring pop up sunshades or low beach chairs to set up to enjoy the fun.  Kids are welcome at the festival too, making it a great opportunity for some family fun. Kids aged 13 or over need a youth ticket while children aged 12 years get in absolutely free with a paying parent or other adult. So, what's on offer this year at WOMADelaide? Performers from Indonesia, Sweden, Australia, Spain, USA, Portugal, Algeria, Austria - and more! - will be gracing the Botanic Park with their presence. From African drumbeats to hip hop, country, string quartets, reggae and flamenco tunes, there's a genre of music to fit every taste. The KidZone area offers a range of thought-provoking activity zones, from the brightly coloured imagination playground to mask creating workshops. Melbourne's Boxwars returns to the KidZone due to its previous popularity - huge cardboard castle cutouts are sure to inspire young adventurers. WOMADelaide has a waste management strategy that allows only biodegradable plates, serviettes and packaging for anything sold at the festival.  A three bin system separates biodegradable waste from recycling as well as any general waste that participants have on them.  This four-day long festival is committed to reducing carbon emissions and has paired with Greening Australia to achieve this goal.  A range of local trees are planted to offset any carbon emissions produced by the festival. This means friends and family who head along to Adelaide for this renowned event will be doing so with a green conscience!
