The ACCA
The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art is located in Melbourne, and the building itself is a work of art. It's composed of angular, geometric shapes that perfectly reflect the unique and sometimes even odd art found inside.
If you're a fan of music and art, you're in luck. Starting on December 20 and running until March 2, the museum will be showcasing an exhibit known as Crescendo. The exhibit will feature seven separate projects that merge film and music, "exploring myth, history and human pageantry as metaphors for life".
The Art Fair
If that's not enough contemporary art for you, consider visiting Melbourne in mid-August, when the city will be hosting the annual Melbourne Art Fair. More than 70 contemporary art galleries from around Australia, as well as a few international participants, will come to the city to present a wide variety of art that is sure to thrill.
The event takes place at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, which is located very close to other points of interest in Melbourne, making this an ideal holiday event.
The Heide Museum
The Heide Museum of Modern Art hosts some of the most forward-thinking exhibits in Australia, and the "Future Primitive" display happening there until March 2 is no exception. Artists from New Zealand and Australia have created art that will make you feel as though you've simultaneously stepped forward and backward in time.
