Having to use the self-check-in took me by surprise, I hadn't seen this before. Not something that gave me a good feeling on what to expect in my room if reception was so cut price. The room was excellent, very spacious, comfy bed and large bathroom. The room was clean and neat and definitely exceeded my expectations after experiencing the check-in.

We went for 2 stays, one before a cruise for 2 nights and after our cruise for a 7 night stay. I am a disabled person who is a full time wheelchair user so I was pleased to find the first room was suitable for my needs. After our cruise we returned to the hotel & was given a different room which I couldn’t manage in so I went to the reception & they found me a room that was like the first one, all within minutes I must say. The second problem I had was the bed was too high and was on wheels so when I tried to get into bed I nearly fell. I went back to reception and explained what happened and they were horrified so they got the maintenance man to my room to see what he could do, he took the wheels off the base of the bed and that made it easier for me. The next thing the staff did was they set up eSIMs on our mobile phones again with no fuss. I must say the level of service from all of the staff was outstanding and should we go back to Australia I would only want to stay in this hotel.

Let down by a few things, but fabulous location

This hotel was “as expected” (I kept my expectations low as had stayed in a a Travelodge before - and the furniture is still from that era). Although the bar area has been renovated, the bathrooms in the rooms are well overdue for an upgrade. They let the place down, as did the lack of cleanliness. The cleaner on Boxing Day did the best job, but I think the bathroom floor was not cleaned for the entire 5 night stay. I think having a dirty and old bathroom felt worse than just having an old bathroom. I didn’t like having the check in on a machine - there was no option. If you went to reception, they just walked you over to the self-check machine. I had booked two rooms and it took two separate payments (so two charges on my credit card conversion fee). On the plus side the happy hour cocktails & wine was great, with nice food and good service. We also enjoyed our buffet breakfast on Christmas Day. And when I told reception that my aircon had died in the night, it was fixed when we went back up from breakfast - on Christmas Day! Loved the area - was very easy to walk to Hyde Park, World Square and Chinatown. Easy to get Uber etc.

Cons: Gold status not recognised on check-in. Sometimes you get bottle or water and a sweet treat sometimes you don't. No room upgrade despite being a quiet night. Room phone doesn't work. Drink ordered with in-room dining not delivered. Casting to TV is confusing. Two TVs for same room. No staff in breakfast room. At least 10 people walked in with no room checks. Staff and management don't care. King bed = two singles pushed together. Pros: None in this visit.

Our second stay at this hotel was as good as the first. The room was spacious, clean and had a nice view from the top floor. Breakfast was good and parking is nearby at Goulburn St. It’s a comfortable walk into the CBD and close to Surrey Hills. A great all around stay.
