Mercure Newcastle

We've visited Mercure Newcastle during this christmas period. This hotel is in the very convenient location and the staffs were great. Breakfast was also good and we liked the room service 24*7. Usually we get the room organised when we are out, but here we stayed for 3 days and we were offered few extra towels only. Rooms were not super clean but was okiesh..

Great staff, great service. Easy to go around Newcastle and also close to the Honeysuckle Tram stop that takes you to the Newcastle CBD and the beach. Breakfast was good, make sure you include jn the package for your stay otherwise it will cost you $32/person per breakfast. The only negative things here are : The swimming pool is too small. The exhaust fan in our room won't turn off, its always on. The aircon kept turning off every 2 hours or so by itself so when we slept here for 3 nights, every night i was sweating as the aircon was turned off by itself eventhough i did not put any timer on. The restaurant is not serving proper meal as no head chef available, so we had to go to Marketown for dinners. The parking why should we pay? I think it should be included on the price. I understand that limited spot, but they have spots up the ramp too, they not using it. Also , when its full, they seem to squish in more cars, in one night we stayed there, we had to park in front of the shed which not suppose too, but thats because the staff maybe promised the people that coming late that parking is available. No it was not, there was no spot left although we already checked in the night before, we still can't get the spot.

Where do I start? Pulled up & the photos don’t match what u actually see! Walk in & think ok reception is nice maybe don’t judge a book by its cover right? Get our room card walk in & we are instantly hit in the face with the curry smell in the room! Turn on the aircon in the lounge room & it sounds like 100 crickets are having a party! Turn on the aircon in the main bedroom & it must be the crickets cousins partying in that one! Turn on the 2 bedroom & it’s quiet phew… the kids will at least get some sleep. Now onto the view! City view…. Ummm…. You look straight out to the storm water channel complete with the local shopping trolley, witches hat & bike! Absolutely beautiful NOT! Now the real kicker! We walk outside & across the road with the kids & realise we are right across the road from a brothel!!! Check your surroundings before you book! Would I go back? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Rims that face King Street are very close to the road regardless of floor. There is almost no soundproofing and it is opposite a 24 hour McDonald's. All night long. I heard cars and motorbikes racing up and down the street or stopped at traffic lights revving their engines. Totally unacceptable.

Stayed for a week on business. The hotel is nothing fancy but offers basic, clean accommodation. Didnt really appreciate being slugged $15 a day for parking though. Staff at reception were polite. The room was a decent size and the beds were comfortable with a good selection of pillows. There is free bottled water in the room however one of mine had been opened and drunk from which had been overlooked by housekeeping. I found the air-conditioning perfectly fine and not noisy. The hotel is in a great location within easy walking distance to the Honeysuckle precinct and beach. There is a microwave and crockery for use but nothing to wash it up with and it made me wonder how thoroughly they get washed by housekeeping if there's no dishwashing liquid? Do they just rinse everything in the bathroom sink and not actually use soap? I probably wouldn't stay here again.
