Mercure Newcastle is located in a very convenient location and has access to parks, shopping centres and amenities. However, the hotel itself is a big disgrace and by far the worst Mercure that I have ever been to and is in desperate desperate need of a makeover. For a supposed 4 star hotel, there were cracked tiles in the bathrooms, scales/mould over the tap heads, and worst of all DEAD COCKROACHES in the room! When we raised this to reception, they said that this was normal and offered to clean the room for us. There was no empathy or offer to change rooms or to give us a place to have a meal while we wait for the room to be cleaned. My partner had to fight to have the room changed and even then, the other room smelled as damp and dusty on the windowsills (minus the cockroaches). Mercure really needs to re-assess this site and how it manages its rooms as well as customer service. This place has really put a sour taste in my mouth on whether I continue staying with the Mercure brand.

Don’t stay here! Room was filthy

This has to be one of the saddest and most disgusting Accor hotels. Despite paying in excess of $250 for the “privilege” the room I was allocated stank of cigarette smoke (it shouldn’t) and was filthy. See pics. Avoid this property at all costs.

On arrival at 3pm we were told there were no parking spots available despite seeing 5 empty spaced from where we sat in the car. The staff member told us these had been reserved by guests staying more than one day despite the booking saying spots could not be reserved. I have stayed in hundreds of motels and have never been able to reserve a car space. We had to park in a shopping centre carpark so distance away. Also the "recent renovations" were merely some coating applied to the bath and tiles in the small bathroom.

So I have stayed at the Mercure Charleston and that is good so I thought I would try the city version had high hopes all were left wanting slow lifts to floors bathroom small and a shower over bath poor water pressure had to hit the toilet ever time to stop it running fan so bloody loud had to close the door at night cups are crap they are trying to some kind of eco friendly using recycling coffee pods nope just garbage no movies or foxtel cheaper hotels provide this poor power point places at bedside the list goes on really need complete renovations before that think they can charge 200 a night got to the best Western Apollo before this place oh and parking is just abysmal and the charge you for it really just don't go

Convenient location. 24 hr reception was great and staff were friendly. We rang ahead to ask about car parking and were told that there’s usually enough car parking for all guests, but when we arrived there was a sign to say the car park was full. We then had to park on the street. Room was spacious but in need of renovation, particularly the bathroom. Minibar isn’t stocked in rooms.. you need to order your minibar items from room service. There were plastic cups for tea/ coffee which wasn’t a nice experience. We were woken up at 2:30am by people who were yelling out on the street.. so if you want a peaceful stay, perhaps try somewhere else.
