The bed was comfortable. The rooms were clean and made up every day. The free breakfast was fantastic. Staff were wonderful. We couldn't fault our stay here. We would definitely stay here again. Perfect location. The Hop and Huddle was great for dinner. Meals were very yummy. We highly recommend this hotel.

Not remotely a 'Mercure' hotel

I stayed at the Mercure on Hay for 4 nights as part of a business trip to Perth. I booked this as a Mercure hotel without giving it much thought. I stay in the Mercure brand fairly regularly as a generally affordable option which offers consistent quality. This is not the case at the Mercure on Hay. Front desk was unmanned, which means using (trying to use) a barely functioning self check in. Rooms are dated but OK, while bathrooms look like a visit to grandma's house before you talked her into finally getting that renovation done. Frankly, the bathroom was gross. Noise levels are fairly high, with each banging door and corridor conversation echoing through the place. The helicopter arriving to the hospital across the road sounded like it was in the room with you. It tended to arrive at about 3am. Barista at the coffee shop downstairs randomly overcharged me for my coffees. No idea why that irritated me so much. Honestly, this isn't what you're looking for. There are another 10 or so hotels within a few minute's walk - choose one of those.

Only good thing was proximity to RPH

Well where to begin. Was second in line waiting and over heard the people in front of me asking when the air con would be fixed, um what, no air con. Rightio, they asked for a room discount and got told we can cancel your booking if you don’t want to stay here. But here have a couple of drink vouchers(that can only be used on very limited cheap drinks)The young Asian lady was so rude to the people in front and very curt with me. She was hard to understand. The hotel doesn’t check you in, you are now required to use a touch screen to do it yourself and then go back to the reception desk! My turn, I ask about the lack of air con and could I upgrade to a balcony room. Nope fully booked out, fair enough. Pay $35 a day for secure parking, happy about that until we get there, let’s be thankful we brought the smaller of our 2 cars. Bays are tiny and very limited. Elevators are dirty and very small Get to room and it’s freezing. Was clean enough, until you walk into the bathroom. House cleaning can only do so much with such a dated and un maintained bathroom. Taps in shower dripping and bath enamel peeling and stained. Call to reception to ask about more blankets, promptly sent another one. Go to the eatery and order chicken wings, loaded fries and onion rings. Wings come out cold, onions rings were so oily they saturated the napkin. Fries were really good and a huge serving. Man behind the bar was quite useless Thankfully reading these reviews I saw someone previously had gotten a small blower heater. Go and ask receptionist if I could please have one. Little Indian lady was so nice and come to our room and said while the air con was working the heating should be. She turns it up to the highest setting and tells me to let her know if it doesn’t warm up and she will find me a heater. She was really helpful. Finish our drinks and dinner and go back to room and it hasn’t changed temperature. Go back to reception and the same lady gets me a heater. I over hear the asan lady being rude to another check in lady who walks off with a scowl, which is understandable. Sleep was really good, pillows were nice and soft and mattress comfortable even though you could tell it was really old, room was a nice temperature after using the blow heater Continental breakfast was cold and dry, we got there just after 6.30, so weren’t late getting to it Best thing about this hotel is the proximity to RPH which is why we booked this one. I think next time we will book elsewhere and get a taxi

Customer service poor, avoid.

Customer service is poor, they can't even be bothered to check you out now, must be done on a kiosk. Both the printed receipt and the emailed invoice attachment show different values - whilst the email with the invoice is just intelligible nonsense. At the moment only what I authorised has been charged to the card - but who the hell knows what they will do in the future. There was an incident whilst I was staying and staff made no effort to provide any service to customers surrounding the incident. At one point I attempted to ring reception using the phone in the room to try and find out what happening, I was told they couldn't help me because the call quality was poor (perhaps they should replace these?). After assessing it was safe to leave my room, I went down to reception where I was given scant detail and had to push for a solution multiple times. Whilst you could write this of as being an 'unusual incident' which indeed is what reception tried to do when I tried to talk to them upon checking out (must use the kiosk), the fact the hotel did not appear to have any policy in place to deal with an incident of this nature (or recognise other customers would be affected) shows significant shortcomings in management, risk planning and provision of customer service. Breakfast is very poor for the price charged so avoid. Bar/restaurant has minimal staff so redeeming the accor silver member free drink was next to impossible. Giving 2 stars because at least the bed was comfy and I'm sure if there wasn't an incident the stay would have been better. But honestly wouldn't stay here again based on the service received. A very disappointing Accor Hotel property which reflects badly on the Accor group.

The check in was nice and easy but as soon as I got to the lifts it was all down hill from there. The elevators are tiny and unfortunately I had to share it with a guy that was clearly drug effected. He started rubbing my bag and dribbling absolute nonsense whilst chewing his cheek until I told him not so politely to f*** off. When I got off the lift to walk to my room there were peoples old trays of food and glasses etc in the hallway which proceeded not to be cleaned up for 3 days. There was paint damage on the walls and skirting boards all through the hotel. The entire place needs a facelift, it’s getting quite rundown especially the bathrooms. The bathroom looked like it was from the 70’s. The fridge was tiny and barely kept anything cold. The bed and pillows though were very comfortable and the tv was modern. Room itself was spacious enough. And there was a tiny balcony which also needs a good paint job. Buffet breakfast was included but it’s exactly the same stuff every morning and none of it really looked appealing. I went to the attached restaurant hop and huddle twice and both times were a let down. First time I sat outside and wanted to watch the football but none of the staff could find the remote for that tv so I got to watch the news while having dinner and a couple of beers. The pulled pork roll I ordered was terrible, meat was dry and the bread wasn’t toasted to the dressing from the slaw just turned it soggy. The second time I ordered a frozen daiquiri and when it came out it was half liquid and tasted terrible. For the price asked it definitely isn’t worth it and I’ll be telling my employer not to ever book our staff at this hotel ever again.
