Mondrian Seoul Do Better

This was the final hotel of five on our Korean holiday. The lobby is very nice, shame they put the check-in on the second floor, makes first impression disjointed. The check-in is really slow, and others before us were having the same experience. They had to excuse themselves to check-in later to make an appointment in time. The room didn't have a Japanese toilet, the only one on our trip. Just a regular toilet with a basic seat. The room's sound proofing is bad. While we didn't hear anybody, another customer next door came to complain about our TV for being loud when it was just standard volume. It was probably on the wall where their bed was, but very poor and embarrassing for everybody. Another guest told us they could hear their neighbours chatting through the wall. Went to the pool, you have to pay 30,000 Won extra to use the sauna. We were asked to wait in a queue when somebody was free at reception because they have a separate queue for the gym. This isn't good service. We were then informed we had to wear a swimming cap, which we had to purchase, while a card in the room state its 'Earth Day' environmental credentials. You want everybody to buy a swimming cap that will be discarded rather than lend them to visitors? We could only use the jacuzzi which isn't very interesting, lukewarm and one jet in the middle. We didn't return. On a map, the hotel looks close to a large green space. In fact, it's an army barracks surrounded with a Berlin-like wall with barbed wire on the top. The park is about a 25 mins walk away on the other side of the barracks. The National Museum of Korea is worth a visit there. The hotel has a nice arcade of shops and cafes underneath, but it feels it wants to be less of a hotel and more of a gym/nightclub for people not staying there. Needs to remember its hotel customers.
