As someone who frequently stays at 5-star hotels, I can confidently say that the reception service at Novotel Perth Murray Street is at most 1-star quality. Upon arrival, we greeted the receptionist with a warm hello, yet she couldn’t even respond. Instead, she continued staring at her computer screen, completely ignoring us. There was no other guest being served before we came—her desk was free—yet she didn’t acknowledge us at all. When she finally spoke to us, she barely made eye contact, kept looking at her screen, and did not smile even once. Maybe she was having a bad day, but at a 4-star hotel, that is simply unacceptable. Unfortunately, We had mistakenly booked for the 15th of March instead of the 16th (a late-night booking at 11:37 PM, clearly an honest mistake). Since we obviously didn’t check in on the 15th, the room remained unused. Instead of listening and trying to assist us, the receptionist kept repeating the mistake like we were being scolded. We weren’t asking for special treatment—just a bit of understanding and basic hospitality. When we asked if anything could be done, she just kept arguing rather than offering a solution. The attitude was almost like: “It’s your mistake, not our problem—deal with it.” We requested to speak to a manager, who was at least more polite and professional, but still ultimately unhelpful. He admitted that the hotel was not fully booked at the time, yet still refused to accommodate us for the night. Instead, he offered a discounted rate for another booking. His excuse? “The system won’t allow it.” Let’s be honest—that’s complete nonsense. But fine, we also accept our mistake for booking for the wrong day. The result is We were left with no room for the night. The lack of flexibility, empathy, and professionalism made this the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. As someone who works in the service industry, I know that customer service is about solving problems, not creating more. Novotel Perth Murray Street failed at that completely. I will never stay at a Novotel again and would strongly advise others to avoid this location if you expect even basic hospitality. A Message to Senior Management: If a senior hotel manager is reading this, please humbly accept our feedback: the receptionist who sits second from the right corner on 16th March at 6pm, either should not be working in this industry, or she urgently needs further training. A smile, a simple “hello,” and basic eye contact are the easiest things she could do to make guests feel welcome. I’m sure they teach this on the very first day in hotel school. I strongly encourage you to review your CCTV footage for further investigation. Her lack of professionalism and hospitality is not just a bad experience for us—it reflects poorly on Novotel’s standards as a whole.

Average Novotel, great location.

Stayed for two nights at the Novotel in Perth. Easy to get to from the train station, about a 10 minute walk pasts lots of shops, bars and cafes. 35 minutes in all by train from the Virgin Australia terminal to the hotel, probably quicker than a taxi or uber. In a very good location for the Arena, shopping, or sightseeing. Perth Mint is a 10 minute walk away. Large and airy lobby. We had a very friendly Spanish receptionist. Room on the 4th floor was a good sized double, large bathroom and ample drawers/wardrobe space. Had a good view of buildings. Air con good brilliant, but kept making a ticking noise overnight. The shower pressure was just awful, to use the ‘saving water’ line is just poor. They have put in the restrictors in the showers heads. If you take some pliers with you, you can take these out. Apart from that, the bed was very comfy, I had foam pillows for allergies and these were comfortable. Big TV on wall and a minibar that was empty apart from some UHT milk. To pay $600 for two nights and not even get a stocked minibar was disappointing. No paperwork, menu, info folders or even a pen and pad in the room, was a bit unusual. Bar is in the lobby, good selection of drinks, went to the hotel restaurant and this doubles for breakfast in the am. Bar is Asian food, not a big menu, just like bites. Staff were friendly and it wasn’t expensive. Pool is on the 10th floor, heated and about 20metres long by 5, not very many loungers/comfy seating (first come first served) bar area up here, but wasn't open, even though the hotel was full as the opening of the Kylie Minogue’s world tour was starting here. Somyou had to order with restaurant, and fair play they would bring it up. They were up and down like a yoyo. Saturday/Sunday rates I suppose the local Management not wanting to pay. Gym seemed a good size, but couldn't find the Sauna. The beauty place was closed when we went there. I would stay here again, most staff we saw in the lobby never greeted you with a smile, just treated you like a number. However, its a chain hotel and they were busy. Qatar Airlines and Singapore Airlines crew stay here, so it must be good enough for them. Just my fair review of a Accor Silver member.

Pleasing and comfortable stay overall

The immaculate room service, generous service from two receptionists, amazing steam room/sauna, spacious interior were the highlights. However, the things Novotel needs to improve on are: -clarity of comms: $100 deposit per day needs to be stated -design of aircons: unable to select fan speed and no manuals on how it works is confusing to some -pool temperature: in summer it doesn’t need to be heated.

Terrible standards

Novotel Murray Street, Perth: I abhor bad reviews as this means that my good energy is off-kilter and my expectations were somehow dashed. This is after all, our holiday. A holiday is a compound of time, money, hopes and dreams. It’s not just someone’s experience, it’s a valuable compound of all variables that are, invaluable. That said, I really want to give Novotel Murray a good bash. Here’s the summary of points, skipping the prosaic and going straight for the jugular: 1. We stayed for 11 days. Not 3-4 days. We chose a hotel over an apartment so we get daily cleaning, and good service. When we arrived in the evening, there was no shower gel. Fine, shampoo suffices for 1-2 days. But when housekeeping failed to refill shower gel by day 3, that’s a cardinal sin. By day 11, shower gel was empty again. I went off the hooks. 2. There was lip service housekeeping cleaning. You get change of towels, bed made. But the water stains on table, handwash soap on counter, dust all over are not cleaned. I literally saw a sheath of dust over everything. I took to cleaning our own glasses as the stains were so terrible. I didn’t raise a ruckus as we were so busy. Do we even need to inform the hotel the room has to be cleaned? 3. Room amenities are refilled on whim. If you’re lucky, you get certain refills. If you get the short end of the stick, you get nothing. We had day trips so by the time we got back in the evening, we were too tired to complain. 4. Please provide espressos at the very least. The cheap Nescafe satchets are so out of line with the Novotel or Accor brand. 4. Christmas eve late evening, we got ghost knocks on our door. The next early morning, housekeeping entered as there was a “Clean room" sign hung on our door. Someone hung it on our door and it sure wasn’t us. I spoke to the Duty Manager - Dinesh - who claimed he never had such an experience. I told him I had an unpleasant encounter with a drunk man in the corridor earlier that evening. I gave the time frame of incidents so he could run CCTV checks and he said it’s Christmas. I never got any follow-ups. Not even at the end of my stay. 4. If you think this is bad by Novotel or Accor’s standards, service recovery pales even more. The Duty Manager claimed she put on red alert to speak to me when we checked out, so she could address the issues. She apologised, asked for my pictures and videos of the terrible housekeeping. Then asked that I email her if I should ever return to Perth and stay at Novotel. Are you mental? Do you seriously think we will be back to your hotel? The GM didn’t even step up nor step in. My final bill was 2 breakfasts and 1 dine at the bar. But there were other dines I paid by credit card. Did I not line your till? Could you even offer complimentary breakfast as service recovery? Not your empty and hollow apologies? The redeeming factors are the location. It’s smack right in CBD with shopping, restaurants, bars and cafes near. We were a regular at the hotel Bar, with their good wings deal and kids meals. There’s steam room, sauna and a fairly decent gym. Pool was always full of screaming kids so it was operation “abort abort” on most days. If you’re going to choose Novotel, DEMAND you be treated right like a paying guest. You paid for quality. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Novotel Murray street Perth is my worst ever experience for Accor group hotel. The AC is set at 18 degree, however it doesn’t work at all & seems to be set as 28 degrees during the night; there is no point of any complain as hotel doesn’t have any maintenance staff working till 8 AM & only 2 reception staff working on swifts in full hotel. Hotel other all services including pool, bar, restaurant etc also get closed much sooner during evening. It feels like small town hotel rather than Perth city.
