Blamed for their error

First of all I booked the gym. I asked what time the last entry was and told it was 5pm. I happily took this. On arrival I was told that it closed at 5.30. That information would have been much more helpful at the time of booking. I ordered room service for dinner. After waiting nearly an hour I rang to see where it was. I was told that someone had been up twice and the lady in the room had sent them away. I told them they must have delivered to the wrong room as I had not answered the door. The lady told me she could prove it as she had cctv. This was never forthcoming. I asked her to describe who had answered the door and she said she didn't need to describe them as it was me! When pushed the description was not even close to how I look. She refused to deliver the food as they were too busy and I had missed opportunity. I spoke to the manager to make a complaint. He took the same stance as the lady in the restaurant, that two attempts to deliver had been made. No apology, no consideration that they might have made a mistake. I persuaded them to deliver and to make sure, I met them at the lift. I felt completely dismissed by the manager. He walked me down the corridor, reading out the room numbers as he went and seemed quite surprised when he got to my room. I asked where they had delivered to. He told me not to worry that I had my dinner now and I should just let it go. I asked was the delivery fee included and it was. At that point I was so cross I said I had expected ilthe cost to be waived, given the problems I had. He said no and that he would take the food away. At this point I didn't care. In the end I did have the meal and wasn't charged. To be clear I gave the correct room number, there was no error on my part. However, there was no apology. I was gaslighted and dismissed. There was no ownership or accountability in terms of the error that had been made. Things go wrong and had this been dealt with in a professional and couteous manner this review would have been very different. I was a regular visitor to this hotel, this will be my last stay. There are other options nearby.

Bei der Buchung war nicht ersichtlich, dass es sich bei dem Zimmer (ca. 250 EUR/Nacht) um ein Zimmer ohne durchsichtiges Fenster handelt - und das bei dem für mich sehr hohen Preis. Zudem wurde bei der Buchung nicht auf diesen Umstand hingewiesen.

A very good experience at St. Helens

Having read some of the comments below I reluctantly booked a room at this Mercure for the weekend not knowing what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised as everything went well and we had a very good experience overall. The pre-arrival communication with the reception was swift and polite. The hotel is located in a commercial area of St. Helen's close to restaurants and shopping centres and restaurants. Parking in front of the hotel was straightforward. You need to register your car in a special tablet by the entrance (as well as in check-in). The check-in process was quick and the front desk agent gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and the fitness club. The room was specious and clean and just as we requested. Everything was functional, lighting, hot water in the shower, TV. There was also an ironing board available. The breakfast the next day was fine and reasonably priced with a continental buffet available and then ordering eggs and stuff as you like. The service was professional from check-in to check-out. We could not ask for more! If in the area again, we will most certainly come back to this hotel.

Second stay after being so impressed the first time with the hotel. The only comment the first stay was lack of reception staff but this seemed to be resolved and we dealt with Amy who was really great. Too good to work at the Mercure st Helens! Briefly.. The first night we changed rooms at 3am as the room was absolutely boiling!! We couldn't sleep. Night staff came up to the room and tried to help and on the second visit to reception we were given a fan that most definitely wasn't safe it rattled and banged! We then asked to move rooms. In the morning the shower was running hot and cold so we used the pool showers and asked the reception to fix it. I was told it was repaired but the next morning it was exactly the same. At that point I just said I wanted keys to another room to shower. On leaving i spoke to the manager who said he was Stewart. He said we could stay free next time including breakfast, and to email in on our return home. I didn't get a response for a while but when I did it was the offer of one night stay. We travel from Scotland so one night is useless to us and I'm not going to spend more money to check if the issues are resolved! Really disappointing.

Excellent location friendly staff and excellent accommodation Second time staying at the MERCURE St Helens I found hotel very central and comfortable Staff were very pleasant and breakfast was extremely good The leisure centre on site was rather nice and enjoyed my evening swim the pool water was lovely and warm
