Lunch with the GRINCH

Note TripAdvisor 5.0/5

Zoe G Avis TripAdvisor

We have been to lunch with the Grinch!! What an experience, so funny and interactive, great for older children too. The lunch was a hot and cold buffet with the added bonus of a pancake machine. Excellent value for money!!

Nice hotel but cosmetics require attention. Stunning grounds and gardens.

I stayed at this hotel with a friend as part of a coach party so we arrived en masse. Check in was pretty smooth, no porterage available but we managed. The Receptionist/Front of House, Nicola, was very welcoming, attentive and friendly and an excellent ambassador for the hotel. We had a lighting issue in our bedroom which Nicola arranged to be sorted promptly. The public areas of the hotel are very smart, especially when dressed for Christmas. However, our bedroom is best described as 'tired'. Unfortunately, we didn't have any doors on the wardrobe, we were not sure why. They doors are normally mirrored, therefore, we didn't have a full length mirror in our room. I understand the pot of money for refurbishments has to be rolled out amongst a lot of hotels within the group but basic lighting/furniture requirements in the bedroom in this hotel need to be addressed. The food was a bit hit and miss but on the whole it was fine. Peas are always a deal breaker and they were! The grounds, gardens and lake are stunning. Surrounded by such beauty it's unbelievable that you're virtually in the middle of a city. The Hotel Staff tried really hard to ensure everyone was happy and on the whole, I believe they did an excellent job. Well done ✅.

Margaret B. En famille - Avis confirmés ALL

On the 20th of January of this year, I reserved two rooms by telephone. I asked for one room with facilities for the disabled, as my father is 90 years old and has mobility issues. He can use a shower cubicle with a cane, but is unable to use a shower over a bath because he is unable to climb into it. I was informed that, unfortunately, the equipped bedrooms with roll-in showers had already been reserved. I was then offered a ground-floor bedroom with a shower cubicle. As this was an adequate alternative, I was happy to accept and I confirmed our reservation of two bedrooms, one with a shower cubicle, from 25th July to 29th July 2025. We arrived on the 25th July at 6pm and checked in. As the member of staff was handing over the two bedroom entry cards, I asked which one had the shower cubicle. The young woman told me that there were only baths with overhead showers in the hotel and that the two rooms had baths. I showed her my Father with his mobility trolley, who obviously couldn't climb over the side of bath and asked what on earth we were supposed to do. Four nights without a shower? Someone suggested that he shower in the Hotel Spa! Unthinkable! My father is 90 years old! He's not going to cross the hotel reception and bar in a dressing gown to go and shower!. Where is the dignity you give to the older generation? Another member of staff who appeared to be in charge, I believe her name was Lisa, heard the conversation, and remonstrated that this was common practice with central reservation. In her actual words, "They tell people what they want to hear so that they book". She continued by saying that this wasn't the first time that this had happened (ie that central reservation offer a shower cubicle when they know that they don't exist). I am appalled by your treatment of elderly and disabled people! We'd just arrived from France, after an eight-hour ferry crossing and drive. We had a reservation at 7pm in a restaurant with members of the family for the 60th wedding anniversary of my parents and this had totally ruined our trip. We stayed one night because we didn't have a choice. Our bedrooms couldn't have been further away from reception and were extremely disappointing, shoddy and outdated. My parents couldn't use the bathroom for obvious reasons; there was only one light next to the bed, so my mother (86 years old) had to wake my father to go to the toilet during the night. All in all, it was a dreadful experience, certainly not what I would expect from a four star hotel. My sister in law is a dentist in the Sheffield area and uses your hotel for conferences. She was dumbfounded when we related our experience and showed her the room that my parents had been given. Fortunately, we found another hotel who were much more able to satisfy our needs and we had a very agreeable stay there. We checked out of Kenwood Spa on Saturday morning, the 26th July, with my husband and I not being able to use the spa or pool facilities as we had wished. We paid a bill of 387 pounds, which I believe should be reimbursed, considering the shocking experience that we had. The person at reception on Saturday morning, Lisa, who was there when we arrived, was extremely apologetic as she could see that we hadn't had the rooms that we had reserved and paid for. She told me that she had sent a reclamation to Mercure. I believe that it is essential for all hotels and public areas to be aware of disability and do their utmost to accommodate disabled and elderly guests. If you are unable to receive elderly and disabled guests, this should be clearly stated on your website, on Google and platforms such as Booking.com to avoid further situations.

Goed hotel, veel is netjes vernieuwd. Vergeet reviews over verouderde inrichting.

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your experiences following your visit to Kenwood Hall and I am so pleased that it was an enjoyable one. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards, Dan Wilson Regional General Manager
