Hotel is great for business travelers, where you just sleep and get out and go to work. Not for leisure. I traveled with a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Pros: Comfortable beds Great location Nice hotel decor on the outside of the hotel and lobby Cons: Room: Rubbish bin had rubbish in them when we arrived. Wasn't even empty. Large knife was put in the 2nd draw in the kitchen, and kids could have easily taken it out. Pillows: 2 of our pillows smelt like damp. I told the receptionist and they replaced it but didn't even care or asked if anything else was wrong in the room. Bathroom: the sink was broken. Toilet stunk like sewage when we arrived. There was very limited space to hang your towels. You have to hang them around the room on chairs to get it dry. Guest Experience" Desk: wasn't welcoming, they were very professional but not approachable. You ask a question and they don't explain; it's 'hurry up and tell me what you want' experience and vibe. Even the manager looked very unapproachable - avoids eye contact and doesn't say hi when you say hi. Pool: Towels were hidden inside the corridor on the other end of the pool level but turned inwards, no signs. Got to the pool and a pile of old towels, no staff, a phone but no contact guide for us if needed to make a call. Restaurant: service is super slow. Overpriced, breakfast wasn't that great. Regretted paying for bed and breakfast, could have eaten outside with nicer menu. Breakfast menu was very limited. I ordered one dessert and it took over 30 mins to make. I asked for an update and all they said was it's coming but didn't even check with the kitchen. Place was empty and yet they cannot keep up with the order. Overall poorly managed. Interesting part: Children over age of 2 is to be paid full person price in the room, but bath towels only given for 2 people usage. 5 star hotel but no porters. It's self service. Verdict: Would I stay again? No I did request for new pillows and after the treatment I received, I didn't bother telling them about other issues.

Staff were very friendly. Good location. Given the price we were surprised at how tired things were. Little broken things and sealant that need redoing, common areas that needed a good scrub. It wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't stay again.

I have never experienced such poor treatment and unprofessionalism during my travels across multiple countries. I was denied access to my fully paid room because I did not have a physical copy of my credit card, despite having paid in advance. This requirement was NEVER communicated to me during the booking process. I presented a copy of my driver's license and my credit card on my phone, but I was still refused entry. The staff member, Pip, laughed at my distress, which was not only humiliating but also led me to leave without ever staying at the hotel, leaving me stranded in South Yarra. It was appalling to find myself on the street at 5:30 PM, with my bag in hand and nowhere to go, while the staff laughed at my situation from inside the hotel. I will never ever ever stay at an Accor hotel again, especially The Olsen in South Yarra. Your service, staff, and overall attitude towards customers are unacceptable, unprofessional and should be a source of shame and embarrassment for the entire Accor Hotel Group.

A far cry from a five-star experience

Where to begin! While The Olsen promises a five-star experience, it certainly doesn't deliver one. I checked the car parking instructions on the website before we arrived, which said, "Prior to checking in, guests can enter by taking a ticket and showing this to the Guest Experience Desk when they check-in." We pulled up at the gate and there was no ticketing machine; simply an intercom that called reception who had to let us in, after checking all the details of our reservation (a frustrating process due to the poor sound from the intercom). Parked, we headed to reception where there was a lengthy wait to check in. We are Accor Plus members, but that didn't make a difference as there were two people on reception - one who wasn't checking anyone in! This was in what I imagine to be peak time, around 3pm. It was very slow. I'm not sure about anyone else, but a 'lolly bar' in reception is not my idea of an exciting or 'premium' guest amenity. Finally, we headed up to our room, passing a tray of used glasses on the floor at the start of the hallway. This same tray was STILL there the next day when we checked out. The room was clean and tidy enough, however the windows were filthy - we could barely see out of them. The view was surrounding buildings and the pool down below. Unluckily for us, the noise from the pool travelled upwards and there doesn't seem to be any great effort put into the window glazing as the noise from both the pool and traffic was extremely loud, through all hours of the night (traffic). The bathroom was very pokey and didn't have a proper sealing door - very uncomfortable given the lack of privacy using the bathroom. The toilet paper was the cheapest Who Gives A Crap rolls - they could at least pay for the premium ones, given it's supposed to be five-star!! While we didn't use the cooking facilities, only one hotplate on the stove was useable as the other one's knob was missing. Positives: the Mexican restaurant (Sam's) down the road from the hotel was the best Mexican I've ever eaten, and we also had an enjoyable breakfast at Two Birds One Stone on Claremont Street. The welcome drink we had in the hotel's restaurant was a good experience, with the chap who served us accommodating and friendly. Despite us discussing the car parking with multiple staff members, there was no car parking on our account on check-out so I rectified that so we could simply leave the car park! We won't be returning to this hotel and do not recommend it to anyone who's looking for a five-star stay. It's 3.5-4 max.

The hotel and access is great and is overall pleasant in a no-frill environment. Rooms (and bathrooms are a little tired and the bed/mattress unfortunately extremely worn out and soft. Service is prompt, friendly and effective. The hotel could do with a bit of an update but the art, location and balconies in rooms are what you come for. The restaurant's service is great and very cordial.
