Pristine location. Staff weren't overly friendly and I still am in disbelief that the best coffee you can serve up is Instant Coffee on the premise that the machine is out of order when there is more than one on premises (very coincidental)

Pretty disappointed

My new Husband and I were really looking forward to staying with you for our Honeymoon. We had a 2 week trip around Tassie planned. One of the highlights of our trip was to be staying at the infamous Peppers Lodge in Cradle Mountain. We informed at point of booking that it was our honeymoon. Cradle Mountain is so magical and lived up to its name. When we came to check in at Peppers, we found the front of house staff fantastic. They did such an amazing job talking through everything and making us feel welcomed. Unfortunately, one of the things we wanted to experience was your spa sanctuary but it was out of action due to a leak. We then headed to our cabin where again we felt the service was great when we were presented with a complimentary bottle of red (thank you). As this was one of our special spots in our big trip we booked the Highland restaurant, upon booking I was asked what table i would like to book - I asked for the best table in the restaurant as it was our Honeymoon. (Side note, it was almost impossible to get a hold of anyone when trying to book - I ended up calling reservations for the hotel to get through). On the night of our booking, we headed to the bar first where not one but two of the drink options I would have liked to drink (wine) were not available as you were out of stock. The bar staff in the Tavern were great but it was just a little disappointing to again be told something wasn't available). We headed to Highland and were taken to our table (the "best one" in the restaurant) which she pointed to the table right next to the bar - the furthest away from the fireplace - there was nothing special or romantic about it. It was like we had been relegated to kids corner. I expressed my disappointment since I had specifically asked for a special table for us. The staff member had no clue what to do, even though the restaurant wasn't full and said she hadn't been told about our request. I asked can we move to a table closer to the fire place and after some to'ing and fro'ing, she obliged. We then sat there for almost 30mins before anyone took our order (even our drink order). We had to ask them to take our order and they quickly apologised and said they were new staff and sorry for the inconvenience. The food was great but the service was abysmal. I don't blame the staff, i blame whoever is in charge of training them. They had no idea what they were doing. It was so disappointing. Especially to pay that sort of money - you expect a level of service and food. The service completely let us down. It seems like a first world problem - but I really felt that this experience took away what could have been the most magical part of our trip. We didn't feel special that night and we know, personally, of 2 other couples who experienced the same terrible service at your restaurant in the same time period. So this wasn't a once off and we were just unlucky. The next morning, we came down for breakfast and again the service was shocking. We were told that the coffee machine wasn't working. Clearly someone needs to do a big job of fixing things in your establishment. I had high hopes for this beautiful lodge but utterly let down and disappointed every step of the way. I hope our review helps you fix the obvious issues. I hope that other couples like us don't have to be let down too. I really wish I could have written a better review but I still can't get over how terrible the restaurant experience was. Such a let down.

Well lovated

Very happy with our stay. The restaurant was understaffed on the Wednesday night but I don’t know anywhere that doesn’t have staffing problems at the moment and the two waiter/waitresses that were working did a brilliant job.

Expensive for what you get

We felt for $700 a night, the room and experience was not nice as expected unfortunately. It would be nice if the resort offered some activities - on a rainy, cold day there is not much to do (other than walk in the whether). We had also said it was for our first wedding anniversary in special comments and thought maybe there would be something special for us

We had a good stay but it was obvious that you were short staffed and meny staff were new and not well trained. There was a noght thet the bidtro was closed, the resteraunt was booked out and the room service offered was very limited and not of great quality.

Room was nice but staff’s attitude weren’t great

We enjoyed our room but felt the staff weren’t having super nice attitude and the bacon in our salad seemed to be cold and raw too instead of the usual pan fried bacon.

Facilities fine, just dated and basic. Staff mostly untrained.. Food poor quality. In every outlet, coffee machines broken. No bar staff had the set skills to make a cocktail.

Trading on past glories

While the accomodation and the overall ambience was great, I think the hospitality side needs a real shakeup. While the staff are polite and friendly they are very inexperienced and seem to have trouble with the basics eg been given a wine glass when we asked for champagne; saucers as side plates instead of proper side plates and no butter knives in the Highland Restaurant. This restaurant could be great but is let down by small servings and no cocktails available. For a supposedly high end restaurant this is a major letdown. Our experience was mirrored when talking to other guests. In fairness, the breakfasts were very good but having a coffee machine that hasn’t apparently been fixed for weeks is a major fail. We noted that only positive comments on review sites like TripAdvisor were acknowledged by management and legitimate criticisms were not addressed. We think Accor needs to give Peppers Cradle Mountain a major reboot as we could not in all conscience recommend it in its present state. A 3 star experience charging 5 star prices.

Room and bed was great. A little disappointed with lunch / dinner, ordered steak for myself and found it tuff given the cost charge. Expect if I am being charged top dollar then only fair to expect a decent meal. My wife had to leave 50% of her her meal due to similar issue. Ordered wine from the menu list and was told on 3 attempts that the wine was out of stock. Breakfast was extremely enjoyable, clean and help full staff. over all the location and accomodation was very pleasant and relaxing stay. Just cost for quality may need to be assets.

Beautiful location, hard-working staff.

I stayed in the spa suite with my wife for a relaxing 4 days. They seemed a little understaffed, but those who were there were hardworking, food was delicious and fast to arrive in the tavern, and the location is just incredible. Walks into the national park give you the perfect balance of activity and relaxing.

Fantastic location but a bit tired for the price

The location is perfect and our room (spa suite) was good. Fireplace was great and bed very comfy. The communal area and restaurant are very tired though. Very disappointed in The Highlander - menu was no where near as interesting as the one on the website and the quality of our meal was poor. Breakfast was good and my only whinge was that Nescafe sachets were what we got for coffee! I understand the coffee machine wasn't working but I think something better might have been sourced.

Nice and cosy.

We enjoyed our stay and the location was extremely convenient for us. The Lodge had a really nice relaxing feel. The open fireplaces and the food were a highlight. All staff were excellent. A real shout out to the two ladies waiting tables at the Highland Restaurant Thursday evening. On the other side of the coin is when we were driving out we couldn't find the $750/ night value. We felt that once tea was had there wasn't much to do. We played Nintendo in the room and we can do that at home but on the TV. I could be harsh because I play a lot of Eightball but considering a"pool table" was mentioned in the advertising there was nothing grand about it. After our towels were changed we were given two. With an extra bed in the room we felt it was quite obvious that there was an extra person staying in the room.

Beautiful place, but under-resourced.

The lodge and setting are beautiful, but unfortunately you can tell COVID has taken it's toll on Peppers. We encountered a lack of staff and the ones that were there were mostly new/inexperienced so the level of service we expected for our stay was average. There were shortages in food at both the tavern and the restaurant and the coffee machine was broken for our entire stay. On top of this, we encountered construction right outside our room for the duration of our stay (not ideal with a one year old child needing naps in the room). The front desk staff were the highlight however and were very apologetic regarding the disruptions - extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. They made sure we were compensated accordingly.

A Short Stay

Narelle W TripAdvisor review

Our family of three recently stayed for a single night. We found the reception and restaurant staff very welcoming and friendly (and doing a great job whilst managing critical internet drop-outs) and good quality service was provided. Our Pencil Pine cabin was comfortable, warm and very clean and located just a short walk from the main complex. We found the bedding to be good quality (most important in our opinion), and the cabin well enough appointed. On the downside, the cabin's interior lighting was somewhat dim, and we did feel that the bathroom was due for a facelift to bring the standard of accomodation more in line with the upper level price tag. It may be worth noting that there is no TV in the Pencil Pine cabin (this did not concern us at all), however it may be an issue for some. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely however the room tariff seemed exceptionally high for the standard of accomodation provided.

Hi Narelle, Thank you for your review and valued feedback. We are delighted that you overall enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate your constructive feedback, helping us to improve. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Warm Regards Your Cradle Mountain Lodge Team
