Really disappointing

Customer review rating 4.3/5

Stuart R. Families - 08/08/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

Unfortunately we really were very disappointed with our stay. We expected the “normal” Peppers standard of accommodation and we were seriously let down. We were trying to do the right thing by supporting Tasmanian business but it was clear from the moment we checked in that re opening after the initial COVID shut down was beyond the capability of those currently employed. The room was very old, very outdated, not clean and overall absolutely not worth what we paid. In addition the pictures in your website are completely misleading. The food was nothing short of appalling. Everything was clearly pre prepared, there was nothing fresh and some of the food was actually completely inedible. The staff (with the exception of the Fly Fishing gentleman) appeared inexperienced, disinterested and overall unable to perform their roles adequately. To be perfectly honest - had there been alternative accommodation in the near vicinity, we would have left. As it was, we stayed away from our home for an extra night at the Peppers Silos in Launceston to try and make up for a really disappointing mini holiday. I will absolutely not be recommending this Peppers to anyone.

Had a pleasant and relaxing stay, the renovations look great but i feel the guest lounge should be separated from reception like it used to be. If you are sitting having a drink and reading, the noise from reception is distracting.

Relaxing Visit

We enjoyed a relaxing mid-week stay at Peppers. Facilities were cosy and convenient. My only comment for improvement would be to create a paperless environment. We were given a lot of paper printouts such as a map and information about the area and then a receipt upon leaving. This should all be done online these days and particularly as I associate the area with being concerned about trees and the environment.

Fantastic location, could do with a tune up

It is a fantastic location. Close to the main experiences and the enchanted walk and waterfalls walk are effectively in the backyard. Also so nice to have the massages and spa, notwithstanding they are a bit pricey. The main shortcoming is the food. It’s ok but very expensive as a result of the captive market. One doesn’t go there for the food but it used to be a lot better.

We love it here. Had a great time.

Everything was fantastic. Enjoyed the walks, small and large. The food was excellent in both restaurants. Unfortunately we didn’t book the sanctuary and we missed out but that was our fault. We booked an extra night and there was some confusion and phone calls when they thought we should be checking out when we were staying for another 3 nights.

Loved the walking tracks accessible around the lodge and they are so well maintained. The day spa was fantastic. It was very relaxing in the spa room overlooking the wilderness in the Waldheim Alpine spa. The spa cabins suites were great particularly with wood heaters and spa and balconies overlooking wilderness. The lodge itself was very inviting with all open fires lit and cosy seating areas.

We stayed 2 nights for our wedding anniversary. We have celebrated our anniversary coming to the lodge for the past 5 years at the same time each year and while our stay this time was pleasant it wasn’t as good as previous years. On arrival because of our later checking in time of about 4:30 we only had the option of breakfast in an early or late time slot. Ideally if I had of known that we needed to book breakfast then I would have called a few days earlier to book a time that suited us better. We also wanted to eat in the reataraunt but was only told of the tavern for food options. It’s only from my previous knowledge that I knew the Restaraunt needed to be booked and so I asked to book for the next nights dinner. If I had have been someone with no knowledge of this then we might have also missed out on this. I booked our second night separately as I received an email about your winter special. As part of the deal it said we would receive a complimentary box of chocolates which we didn’t. We also probably needed a fire guard for the heater in our room as we had an infant with us that was clearly stated on our booking but we wern’t even offered this option at all. it was just the little things that added up that didn’t make our experience as enjoyable as our previous experiences with Peppers cradle mountain. After our stay this time it was the first time that we are considering staying somewhere else next year when we book to get better value for our money.

we regularly stay at Cradle mountain lodge.

Cradle remains a special place for us as a family unit so what a wonderful surprise to be upgraded on arrival to a spa cabin with wood fire, and have all facilities open for us to enjoy. We look forward to post COVID when the pace can slow a little and there are less time constraints around meals, otherwise another great cradle stay

No wifi, no TV, dated facilities (e.g. cold slate floor in bathroom). CO alarm went off due to low battery at 3am (replace batteries every 1st April). Poor lighting on paths from main lodge to room. Food in restaurant very poor, few choices, poorly cooked and quite expensive. For example, eggs benedict hard boiled and cold! Fish not cooked, sent back. Waiter mansplained how “good restaurants” prepare food, not realising that we have eaten in London, New York, Paris, Rome, etc., very patronising when we were only trying to give feedback. Even got down on his haunches like we were in primary school. All up a waste of our holiday time and money.

Exceptional and iconic presentation of the very best Tasmania has to offer to Tasmanians, interstate visitors and international visitors. The preservation of, and access to adjacent "wilderness" is nothing short of sensational; viewed from the cabins and walking tracks.

Location great, but tried to overcharge me on arrival (later adjusted), meal orders were hit and miss (more miss with what the menu said and what we got being different), breakfast quite frankly forgettable for what is promoted as "luxury experience".

Really enjoyed my two night stay at Peppers. Staff were faultless throughout. Only a few minor issues. Whilst I enjoyed the breakfast both mornings, it did come out a bit cold and the savouries were a little under cooked. Tea was at the Tavern. Pizza was delicious! The Chicken Schnitzel was a bit overcooked and a little expensive ($30) for the price. Overall the food experience was average, but it was not below average! I think this will be ironed out as the tourist season kicks off. The room itself was so cosy and had an excellent location. My only minor issue was the fact that the room nextdoor was very noisy, it sort of distracted from the peacefullness of the place. But it is not really the fault of Peppers, just a minor issue I had. Overall was a good stay and will definitely come back, it will be in the Kingbilly though!
