We stayed at the Observatory last probably 20 years ago and it was great to return and find nothing really changed. Rooms where clean and tidy and with a great view, they are looking a little tired and could do with some care and attention. We did find the that the Cutlery, Crockery and general kitchen equipment was lacking somewhat. The Road noise has increased considerably over the years, particularly from those people who feel the need to have, unnecessary, loud exhaust on their cars and motor bikes. We had returned to visit my aging mother and it was great to be able to fit her wheel car in the lift and access our rooms balcony. The Milk Bar down stairs is a great place to get coffee and/or breakfast and access to the beach is easy. All in all I would return.

We’re also pleased the lift accommodated your mother’s wheelchair and that you were able to comfortably enjoy the balcony together. We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the apartments appearing a little tired and the kitchen equipment being somewhat limited. Your comments have been noted and will be reviewed as we plan ongoing improvements. While road noise can occasionally be noticeable, we understand how this may have impacted your stay and appreciate you sharing this with us. I rang reception before I booked the room because my wife had an incident and couldn’t climb stairs. It was recommended to book a certain room which I did in the Accor website. When we arrived, I asked roughly how far it would be from the lift to the unit and I was told I had booked in the units behind which had no elevator. When I questioned how this was possible. I was informed that I had got it wrong and booked through a third party and it was all my problem. The fix was to upgrade for a price and the person that was handling this was very abrupt. Her manners were abysmal and made the start of our stay very crapy.

I’m very sorry to hear about your experience — especially given the circumstances surrounding your wife’s mobility needs. I can understand how upsetting and frustrating this must have been after you took the time to call ahead to ensure you booked an appropriate room. While I cannot speak to the exact conversation you had prior to booking, the room type you were allocated is not one our reception team would recommend for guests who require lift access. I am also very concerned to hear how the situation was handled on arrival. You should have felt supported and treated with care, and I sincerely apologise that the interaction left you feeling otherwise. We genuinely want every guest’s stay to begin smoothly, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention so we can review both the booking communication and the service you received.
