Poor service and dirty room

I booked for a 2 night stay. The bathroom floor and sink were filthy, and made it very difficult to change rooms. I was even asked whether the bed was made after I complained about the state of the room. The swipe cards for the lift had to be replaced 2 times because they did not work.

No Follow up by Mantra as promised following reported injury which had a overall negative impact on our trip to Darwin

My wife (Angelique Espeut) and I (David Espeut) stayed at the Mantra on the Darwin Esplanade (Room) on the following days/nights: Thursday (27JUN) …. Please note that our actual check in was around 0130 early Friday morning after our flight arrived from Brisbane, Fri (28JUN), and Checked out at 2330 on Saturday (29JUN). Checkin and check out was painless, the person at reception was polite/professional and our room was clean. Unfortunately I will have to give a negative review for the following reasons. On Saturday morning (29JUN), my wife and I were planning to walk along the Esplanade to Aquescene for the morning fish feeding and a coffee and then walk back to our accommodation via Mitchell Street. While I was showering at about Noon , I heard my wife cry out because a panel below the TV fell on her left ankle unexpectedly while she was getting dressed. (please see attached pictures that I took following the accident of the panel and Angelique’s ankle). She was in such discomfort that I thought I would have to get an ambulance via reception to take her to the emergency room in a town that I am unfamiliar with. Her pain subsided after she prayed, laid on the bed and iced it for approximately 30 minutes delaying our plans We immediately reported the incident to Reception and offered to supply pictures to the reception worker who was on duty that morning/afternoon, bt she said that was not necessary. The reception worker stated that she will inform the head office and see what sort of compensation we could get ie discount or credit for future stay…since we would not be able to use any meal or drink vouchers prior to checking out and returning to Queensland that evening that she offered us initially. The reception worker sent an email to head office, but did not get an immediate response and suggested we check back in with reception later. My wife went to get a coffee since our plans were no limited and had to be revised substantially due to her freakish injury. This was extremely disappointing and unfortunate because our time to explore Darwin was limited. When we checked back in with reception to follow up approximately 1-2 hours later, the same reception who assisted us previously and sent off the email to the Mantra head office… still did not receive any response on what course of action or compensation would be presented to us. She said somebody would contact us and I asked and confirmed that they had Angelique's details (mobile and email address). To add to my wife’s discomfort there was a false fire alarm Saturday Evening between 1900 and 2000 that required Angelique to walk 5 flights of stairs to evacuate the building which further aggravated her injury instead of allowing her to rest it A week later (As of 06JUL24) we still have not heard anything from Mantra to follow up our incident report which is disappointing and unacceptable. Since returning to Queensland my wife could not afford to miss work and had to be examined by a Doctor (Monday,01JUL24). Her ankle was also scanned to confirm (thankfully) that there were no fractures on Tuesday (02JUL2). Tissue and nerve injury still seems to persist so Angelique may need further Physical Therapy. At this time I am leaving a negative review due to the Mantra lack of response and action to their customer following our incident that we reported and I am exploring what other actions may be necessary to take.

The Mantra is a standard 3 *but has all you need for a couple of nights. Well located near waterfront park and shops. Our room was comfortable,spacious, well laid out, clean and quiet. It was ideal for a couple of nights while exploring Darwin. If arriving late, best to notify the hotel and they will arrange for your key in a lockbox. Recommended.

The accommodation itself was fine. However, there were several areas for improvement. Reception staff seemed disinterested in connecting with customers. The room had a strong disinfectant smell that was hard to counteract with fresh air. And the air con in the building was exceedingly cold. I turned off the air con in my suite, but the cold air from the rest of the building still made its way in. The bed linen was light and there were no spare blankets in the suite, which meant for an uncomfortably cold night's sleep.

Bathroom unclean, poor room temperature control, room key malfunctioned multiple times - desk clerk impolite insisting it was my fault, “try it again” (finally she brought a master key and admitted the lock was broken). The window was very, very dirty, difficult to see the ocean with any clarity. When you pay for ocean view it is nice to be able to see the ocean. ALL Accor should be ashamed to have their brand on this property, it is not to their standards.
