This is difficult to review due to the reasons for my stay. I have stayed at the Leicester Marriott over three Xmases (I live in Slovakia, though Irish). There is nothing specifically stand-out wrong with Novotel, it is new and fresh, but my main bugbear was the room sofa. It's not practical, it's split in two and you cannot slump into it comfortably. It looks okay if you have a 30-year-old model sitting on it for PR reasons, but it is not comfy or functional. Some bigwig in senior management approved it - he/she should be fired on the grounds of bad taste/judgement. This was a 3-day test to see if it would replace the 20-year-old Marriott, but also no. I was almost relieved to leave. It didn't feel 'homely' for a single person's Xmas stay. One outstanding point was the waiter in charge on Dec 19. (Unfortunately no name, but he had the right balance of solicitude without going over-the-top like some Americans do. An asset to the hotel.)

Had one night in novotel.. It’s very well situated literally across main road from town..2mims walk! This hotel is just right..nothing fancy but just a simple modern generic hotel. I don’t mean that as a slur. It has excellent location, provides parking 2mims walk away for an extra £10 per night, comes with a ample buffet breakfast covering a few food choices, clean modern ample sized rooms well presented and for a sensible price for a Saturday night. Have stayed in posher hotels for three times the price that didn’t meet this hotels standards. Only one major niggle though.. they provide a double T shaped toilet roll holder next to WC… and they placed a different brand on each side!! For shame!! One can only assume that perhaps Novotel really do go all out and consider different ‘grades’ of paper (like sandpaper) for both the male and female derrière perhaps??….. Really impeccable service!!….😉😉 All joking aside, if you want a nice sensibly priced place to lay your head for a night or two then look no further..

Comfortable hotel

A very comfortable hotel in a nice location. Breakfast food was a little cold and, on the Sunday morning, the place was chaotic, with nowhere near enough staff to attend to things like coffee machines being restocked. The restuarant manger was friendly and thanked us for our understanding. It would be good if all the staff were trained on how to interact with customers. We had to access the emergency stairs because a firedoor on the corridor of our floor was jammed shut and both the lift and the regular staircase were beyond that firedoor. When we finally got into reception, what surprised us was that no apology was offered, just a response along the lines of "You just didn't push the door hard enough" Really? We are both strong adults and neither of us could force it open (we decided not to kick it!) We'd been through that door numerous times before. Sometimes staff need to put themselves in the customer's position.

Lovely clean modern hotel. Breakfast delicious with good quality food. Nice shampoo and shower gel in the rooms. Working modern tv. Plug sockets near mirrors. So refreshing these days when hotels are so often cutting costs and standards.
