Our stay with Swissotel was fantastic. The amenities were well kept as well. All staff were attentive and helped us out with anything we needed. The waitress we had at Archer's was able to recommend high quality drinks for us and even gave us a sample of her recommendation which was a very nice touch. The only improvement/suggestion I have is looking at a staggered checkout time. A couple of the days had us waiting 10 mins (no exaggeration) for a lift down to the lobby as there was a mass checkout. Overall a very good experience and aligns with what we have come to expect from the ALL group.

The hotel is nice, customer service was lacking.

I was overcharged, my membership was ignored. I was then double charged. I settled the bill after breakfast, I was told that the charges were pending and she will speak to her manager, I did note her name tag said training, when I later returned another lady came to help and they took my husbands physical card to pay, that said approved and the money left our account, we were then given a receipt of payment. Come Tuesday, $288 was charged to my card on file anyway. When I spoke to a manager she spent 10 minutes explaining that it’s too late now, I should pay a third time, and they will refund both previous payments. This was now almost $2000 for two nights when included parking that was paid separately, after a lengthy debate, I insisted they keep the card we used and just refund the card I had asked them not to use, the manager then begrudgingly said ‘well I’ll refund the card and I guess I have to trust you to pay through an emailed pay link when the money is refunded’. Money hasn’t been refunded as of yet, to either cards but I have been in contact with my bank who confirmed the money was taken out of the correct account. If this was an option, then I do not understand why I spent time on the phone being told this is an impossible request. I work with clients, I’ve had difficult clients, I was very careful with my tone and communication, but I also will not pay $900 on room service. Furthermore, breakfast one morning I was told my membership covered one breakfast, which, this isn’t my first time at the Swiss, this has always been the case, the second morning I gave my card and this was not applied. I sent an email regarding these issues, it was ignored. It was just a nightmare experience with management. We spend a lot of times taking staycations and travelling. This has to have been my worst experience, the way management was horrible. I am extremely upset that there has been no response, let alone any sort of apology. The attitude was very much, there was a mistake made so this is what you have to do.

Not much benefit from Accor Plus

As an Accor Plus Gold member I have some inclusions. These include a room upgrade, early check-in and guest amenities. I spent one night in the Swissotel Sydney. When I arrived at 2pm they advised the room was not available yet and I was not able to upgrade. I had booked an Advantage King Room. They said they would ring when the room was ready. I went for a quick shop, had a coffee and waited.... At 3.25 (well after the check-in time) I went back to reception and wondered about my room. They had some trouble seeming to find my booking and despite being after check-in time I was told to wait again. I was then given a disability room. Seat in the shower, weird toilet and lots of grab handles. The room was rather cramped without a comfortable chair and a small desk area. The view was average. Not able to walk around the bed if the cupboard was open. Phone did not work unless you use the handsfree function. I had to call reception to have my luggage sent up. I then wondered about my Accor Plus amenities. I contact reception again. Sometime later a small box of chocolates was sent up. The QR room service system did not seem to work and I was worried about how many room service meals I had ordered. The air conditioning could not be turned off and was noisy. There was no compendium. An unusual system of needing two elevators to get to ground or your room. The hotel was handy for the theatre across the road. Overall, I am unsure if I received the room I booked and did not receive any Accor Plus gold inclusions (other than 4 little chocolates, which I had to ask for).

First time staying at this hotel, won’t be my last. Stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved it! The welcoming lady at check-in allocated me a lovely, quiet corner room. I didn’t hear any outside noise, or from guests next door. The room was clean and had great storage. Bottled water was complimentary each day, my room did not have a Nespresso machine, I believe other room types might. The bathroom was a good size and had good water pressure. The bar, on the same level as reception, has a lovely happy hour with great cocktails. The hotel is situated in a fabulous location, so close to Darling Harbour and a short walk to the theatre and China Town. The team when you first walk in from the street is super helpful and friendly. Looking forward to spending 6 nights here in March. I totally recommend this hotel.

Great location, some inconsistencies with housekeeping

The experience was generally positive. Really grateful that we were granted early check-in since we arrived in Sydney in the AM after a red-eye flight. Location was great and room was well-sized. The proximity to most public transport options made it easy to move around. Malls nearby also meant food and shopping was easily available. What was NOT great was slight inconsistencies in housekeeping—I understand there was an alternate day towel change practice, but I think they didn't change our towels from Day 3-5. Our room would seem made up but our own little blanket and pillow (for child) would be left messy and randomly thrown on the bed, rather than folded and set properly. It left me wondering whether the team did come in to clean up. The bathroom fittings were also visibly old—hanger behind the door kept swivelling and couldn't keep anything on. The worst part of the experience was being charged A$21+ for unknown items hours AFTER check-out when we were told everything was fine at point of signing out. I had to write in to enquire and was told it was charges for minibar items that we totally did not touch at all. It's not ever in our family's practice to consume anything unless items were complimentary. In all my years of traveling for business and leisure, this is the FIRST time I've been "accused" or wrongly charged of items in such circumstances. I am shocked to say the least since Swissotel is a big name with great reputation. Your housekeeping team's SOPs clearly need some checks. To be honest, it has left a bad taste in the mouth. I might be cautious when considering a stay at any other Swissotel properties henceforth.
