Due to a mistake of the reservation department at Fairmont, my stay at Fairmont Century Plaza Beverly Hills was overbooked, so they sent us for one night at Fairmont Santa Monica. Got at Santa Monica almost midnight, vallet was not at their desk, it took 10 min to get inside as the ocean-side door was locked. Room was nice with side ocean view, but kind of rusty, with visible signs of time. The vallet took a long time to bring the car every time, on different shifts. Front desk service was nice. Overall a comfortable sleep, venue with a beautiful view, missing a beat in delivering great quality services.

The location is great. The facilities are very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was sparse and poorly decorated. I would have considered the room decor to be less than a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. There was a lot of maintenance being done blocking many areas.

Overall the Fairmont is a really beautiful location, has lots to offer with respect to the amenities on site- the restaurant, lounge, coffee shop etc. The staff is also very friendly, and were able to upgrade us to a better floor without requesting during the middle of the week. As small as it seems, we really appreciate that they have water bottle filler stations on each floor. We've stayed at many hotels that made it surprisingly difficult to get water without paying for a room temp bottle in the room. Where things were lacking I'd say the room itself is getting a bit dated, and the trap under the bathroom sink in our room was leaking pretty significantly during our stay, to the point where the floor towel was drenched.
