Very Disappointed regarding the Check-in Experience – Mercure Bugis

Dear Management Team, I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment regarding the very unpleasant experience my family and I had during our check-in at Mercure Hotel Bugis on Christmas Day. We had planned to celebrate Christmas at your hotel as a family, and this was our first time staying at Mercure, especially with our son. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined due to the unprofessional handling of our check-in by your staff member, Mr. Kenny Tay. During check-in, Mr. Kenny Tay insisted on seeing a physical NRIC. As residents of Singapore, we are now using the digital NRIC via Singpass, which is an official government application and widely accepted. Despite explaining this, he refused to acknowledge or consider the digital ID, which was very disappointing and unreasonable. What made the situation worse was his response. Instead of offering a solution or providing assistance—such as allowing us to check in first and requesting the physical ID later—he told us to cancel our booking simply because we did not have the physical card at that moment. This is unacceptable. A hotel staff member should be trained to assist guests, not dismiss them. Furthermore, his attitude lacked sincerity, empathy, and professionalism. There was no proper explanation, no effort to resolve the issue, and no apology. His behavior left a very poor impression of Mercure Hotel and completely ruined what was supposed to be a joyful Christmas celebration with our family. In the end, we were forced to cancel our reservation, and we will not be returning to Mercure Hotel if this is the level of service provided to guests. I sincerely hope that management will take this matter seriously, review your check-in procedures, and provide proper customer service training to your staff so that other guests will not experience the same disappointment. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Extremely comfortable bed, probably the best shower I have ever taken and very conveniently located. Staff were kind and professional allowing us a very early check in.

I brought my friend to have drinks at level one bar. We met Ryan who serve us. He realised that is my friend first time to this hotel and he extended a warm welcome to my friend. Mr Ryan check on us regularly to see if we required any addition service from time to time. My friend is very impress with his excellent service level. My friend did ask me to arrange for another session soon at this same place with some of our former office staff. We will be back soon for more drinks. Thank you Ryan

The location is very strategic. I loved it there! I hope you could give me a great discount should I come there again with my kids. No other place, hostel, or hotel would I choose, only Mercure Bugis. Best differentiating factor is your Asst. Manager, Royston Christopher Wu. He is the best! He is an expert in his field, knows the pulse of every nationality he speaks with. He deserves a promotion.
