A Quality Melbourne Hotel

The hotel has been nicely renovated since our last stay. We upgraded to the Executive Deluxe room which provided a lovely view over the MCG and the bay in the distance, as well as lots of Melbourne. It gave us access to the Executive Lounge which we used for pre-dinner nibbles and drinks. There was a choice of three or four hot dishes, plus lots of charcuterie and cheeses. There were softdrinks, a coffee machine and free pour red and white wines. My only complaint was that there was no signage as to what the food was, for example there were arancini and dumplings but nothing stating what was in them. This is a problem for picky eaters like myself, and even worse for people with allergies. Again the view from the lounge was excellent. We had lunch in the bar which was of good quality. Accor providing their half price dining benefit here. We also had breakfast in the restaurant. We could have chosen to eat in the Executive Lounge, but there was a much larger choice in the main restaurant. All in all a very nice choice for a Melbourne weekend, particularly if you are attending anything near the MCG or tennis centre.

This hotel is magnificent and the location is perfect for a work travel. Great staff - classy rooms and the Executive Lounge make it a real crowd pleaser after a long day!!!! The Clivenden Bar can be what you want - full of atmosphere or your own quiet corner - the food is sensational and plenty of choice. Glad I ventured 5 mins out of the CBD.

Fab two night stay at Pullman Melbourne on the Park. Our Accor Platinum status recognised on check-in and lovely amenities in our room. My husband's celiac condition was recognised in the executive lounge, which made the experience more relaxed and enjoyable. All staff were friendly and attentive with special mention to Mardi on reception and Sandra in the restaurant. Rooms were clean, a good size and well appointed. It such a lovely walk through the gardens into the city and the perfect position for events in the MCG/Rod Laver precinct. Congrats to staff & management on a well run hotel.

A troubling series of problems that undermined our stay

During our four-night stay, we encountered an unusual number of issues (10 problems detailed below), raising serious concerns about the hotel’s reliability. Our Superior Suite also fell short of expectations. The living room was not fully separated, featuring only a partial divider as wide as the TV, with large open pathways instead of a door. The toilet was inside the bathroom with glass doors, offering little privacy. The room’s design had other flaws: overly complicated and confusing light switches, a shower tap awkwardly placed on the opposite wall facing the shower, and insufficient storage areas (just two drawers). Additionally, the AC blew directly onto the bed’s headrest, making sleep uncomfortable unless turned off. On the positive side, the staff was generally responsive, the location is unbeatable for the Australian Open, and the pool was enjoyable. The executive lounge was pleasant, though we found the regular buffet breakfast to offer a much better selection (so we ended there). Unfortunately, the sheer number of operational issues overshadowed these strengths. 1/ A previous guest’s item was found under the bed, indicating poor housekeeping. 2/ Despite registering our car at check-in, the parking system failed to recognize the guest rate and charged an exorbitant fee (later waived at the front desk). 3/ Housekeeping missed the pre-agreed service time, disrupting our schedule. 4/ Despite pre-booking and confirming at check-in a paid 4 p.m. late check-out, we received a call at 11 a.m. instructing us to vacate. 5/ Key cards repeatedly stopped working and required frequent resets at the front desk. 6/ The restaurant provided outdated menus featuring unavailable dishes (including the ones we had selected). 7/ Laundry service failed to replace the laundry bag and form after the first use, and staff attempted pickup from the wrong room. 8/ Minibar charges appeared on our bill despite no items being taken. 9/ WiFi frequently disconnected when moving around the property, requiring constant reconnection. 10/ After returning home, we discovered an error in the credit applied to our loyalty program. For a property of this standing, these issues were simply too many.
