Rooms need better maintenance and servicing

Nota Tripadvisor 2.0/5

Mandy K Avaliação com certificação TripAdvisor

This was a secret escape one-night deal for a Privledge room, free parking, a welcome drink, three course dinner and breakfast. Surely "priviledge" rooms are meant to be the showcase of the hotel? Well, ours (room 406) had a blocked sink (meaning we couldn't wash our hands and we had to spit our toothpaste down the loo!), there was no soap in the dispenser, the shower hose sprayed water everywhere when not in its cradle, the drencher shower didn't work and the room was so hot on arrival that the lovely tray of welcome nibbles had all gone crusty on the outside. Even once the air-con was turned right down, the temperature of the room combined with the extremely thick duvet meant we got little sleep. We were looking forward to the 3 course Marco Pierre White meal in the restaurant, but ......the Secret Escapes offer hadn't mentioned that the meal was from a restricted menu.... one of the four starters had run out (whitebait) and the two we tried (chicken soup and potted ham) were nothing special. The mains (Fish & Chips and chicken forestiere) were overcooked. The New York Baked Cheesecake had obviously come out of the freezer BUT, the ice-cream (the best bit about the meal) was delicious. The breakfast was also good. Had our room been properly maintained and serviced we probably would have been more receptive to the choice and standard of the evening meal in the restaurant. When we came to check out, there was no receptionist on the desk just a sign saying they were "dealing with a guest". OK we thought and waited a bit.....when the ambulance service turned up this confirmed for us that someone was obviously in more need than us. BUT - then the receptionist returned, coffee cup in hand, having just taken a break! We explained the issues with the room to her and she was "terribly sorry", but no notes were taken so they could be sorted out. I suggested the list of issues needed writing down so the issues could be sorted out for the next guests . Eventually she wrote some notes of the back of an unwanted card receipt of the couple that checked out before us giving me no faith that the issues will be addressed! Where was the hotel's procedure to deal with reported issues - surely she should have pulled out a folder, taken a form out of that folder and completed it detailing the reported issues ready to hand it over to the maintenance team on Monday morning. That way I'd have left believing our experience was a one off and that the hotel was striving to improve...... Its a shame because it could be such a nice hotel in a town that is obviously in need of something to kick start its regeneration.

Dear Mandy K, Thank you for sharing your experience at Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences you faced during your stay. It was disappointing to learn that the maintenance issues in your Privilege room and that it did not meet the expectations and the standards we strive to uphold for our guests. Your feedback regarding the blocked sink, shower difficulties, and room temperature is noted, and we understand how these factors affected your overall comfort. It’s unfortunate that these concerns were not mentioned during your stay, as was highlighted during check-out, we would have gladly moved you to a different room immediately to ensure a more comfortable experience. Maintenance have fixed the issues mentioned however we were unable to replicate the problem with the sink or rain shower during our checks, so will continue to monitor this for any potential concerns. We regret that the dining experience did not align with your expectations, particularly regarding the restricted menu and the quality of certain dishes and will feed this back to the MPW and Secret Escapes teams to be considered next time the promotion and menu are revised. We appreciate your comments about the breakfast and the ice cream. Sorry if you were kept waiting for a minute or two when checking out, Lilac was working alone so popped to get a hot drink and was asked a question regarding another guest which delayed her return to the desk a little. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more enjoyable stay in the future. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager

Excellent hotel. Rooms are clean, spacious and modern. The en suite was especially nice. I was put on the top floor that had a lovely balcony area overlooking the town. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of options. The hotel bar is nice and staff are friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Dear Mark S, Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cleanliness and spaciousness of our rooms, as well as the various options available at breakfast. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back for another enjoyable experience in the future. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager

A very Happy Christmas

To be honest, the outside of the hotel looks rather gawdy and flashy. However, we weren’t planning on staying outside and the interior was very much nicer. As we had gone there for Christmas, all the decorations were up and the whole lobby and lounge area had a warm and welcoming feeling. The staff were all very relaxed and friendly. We were shown to our rooms, which were nicely decorated and maintained. Our bed was unbelievably comfortable and the temperature in the room was just right. One fairly major point however, was that my wheelchair would not fit into the bathroom, but we managed. We didn’t mention it to the manager as I had been led to believe that all the rooms had identical layouts. Christmas Eve, they weren’t serving food, so we ordered some in, with no trouble at all. Breakfast was made to order and then we relaxed until lunch, which was absolutely delicious – the full works! Checkout the next day was very laid back as there weren’t many of us there. All in all a lovely way to spend Christmas

Dear Culture38336732376, Thank you for your delightful feedback regarding your Christmas stay with us. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by our festive decorations, as well as the comfort and maintenance of your room. It is always our aim to provide a relaxed experience for our guests, and I am pleased that our staff contributed to this. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience you faced regarding the wheelchair accessibility in your bathroom. I have tried to follow up with the Duty Manager to see which room you were allocated so I can double check the doors as this isn't an issue we've been made aware of previously. We are glad you enjoyed your meals, particularly the breakfast and lunch, and that your overall experience was satisfying. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts, and we hope to welcome you back for another memorable stay. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager

Stayed for one night for my husband's birthday, got a good deal through Secret Escapes - £106 on a bed & breakfast, 3 course dinner with drink included, superior double room, room was spotless, very modern, extremely comfortable bed and pillows, luxury bathroom with big open shower cubicle, toilet and basin, big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand wash and body lotion which were lovely and lightly fragranced, the staff were lovely and friendly, very attentive, we enjoyed our set menu meal, there was a choice of 4 starters and desserts and 6 mains, my husband's steak was cooked perfectly and my fish & chips was absolutely huge and lovely and crispy, had a very good nights sleep and breakfast the next morning was buffet with juices, cereals, fruits, yogurt, toast & danish, coffee machine, the full english was buffet also but topped up frequently so was fresh and lovely and warm, parking in the small car park was £10 per 24hr but booking through Secret Escapes it was free, just register your car at the screen on the check in desk, the only downside for us was the area, it was a bit run down as others have commented, but this didn't impact our stay

Dear Julie C, Thank you for your delightful feedback regarding your recent stay at Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your husband’s birthday celebration with us and found great value in the package you booked through Secret Escapes. It is wonderful to know that you appreciated the cleanliness and modernity of your room, as well as the comfort of our beds and the luxury amenities provided. We take pride in our attentive staff and are glad they contributed positively to your dining experience. It’s also great to hear that you enjoyed our varied breakfast offerings. We understand your concerns regarding the surrounding area, and we appreciate your understanding as it did not overshadow your overall experience. We look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable stay in the future. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager
