A luxury apartment hotel worthy of the name

This elegant, luxury residence hotel truly deserves these attributions. Our serviced apartment had two bedrooms, a small office room with a desk and bookshelves, two bathrooms, the main one with two sinks, plenty of counter space, separate rooms for toilet and shower within the bathroom, a kitchen, coffee machine for gourmet espresso, a dishwasher, wash and dry laundry machine, and a large tv monitor in every room. We were greeted by a bowl of delicious fresh fruit upon our arrival and the staff spoke good English and were friendly and gracious in responding to all our requests and questions. There were many amenities we didn't use such as the pool and sauna, and the lobby had delightful displays and beautiful flower arrangements that chang d often. I enthusiastically recommend this accommodation and our travel agency that chose it for us, ATJ, who saw to every detail of our trip.

Review Currently at the Grand Mercure and have voiced a few issues to staff here already but our experience so far has been somewhat lukewarm for what's categorized as a 5 star property. We love the fact that it is pet friendly - any property that treats pets as a welcomed guest is a plus in our book and we will be sure to give them business. Still, compared to other pet friendly hotels in Seoul (we stayed at 2 other over our 1 month stay), Grand Mercure doesn’t provide much given their daily "cleaning fee" - not sure what cleaning is being done aside from daily housekeeping. Not to mention housekeeping experiences have been hit and miss as well. Other hotels charged a one time cleaning or weekly cleaning in regards to pets so if you're charging a daily fee I'd think there'd be something differentiating the cleaning. No pet pads, no deep cleanings, no pet amenities at all to be honeat compared to the other 2 hotels we've tried. Moving onto hospitality and service, it’s definitely not in the 5 star category. There are many instances that stand out but to name a few: - We had dinner at the hotel restaurant with a family member who lives in Seoul and had stayed over a month in the same hotel due to home renovation. They even have the hotel membership. All of us ordered our dishes but everything came out in piece meal so many of us watched as the other ate and vice versa. They requested a takeout box to have leftover pizza wrapped up. They were warned that it will be extra cost for that. By now the bill was paid but they went the extra mile to charge the $2-3 for the takeout box. During the entire meal they never put that much extra effort in. - We had a small hiccup with housekeeping not leaving enough towels for 3 people in our suite but this got resolved right away. We had to buy floor wipes and it took 2 whole packs to clean the floors up because they were so grimy like it had never gotten a good mop down - and this is despite the daily pet cleaning fee they charge for these supposedly designated rooms. - The room layout is good for 3 people with the extra bed so that's great. Washer/dryer in room is also a plus. What needs to be addressed is the janky ironing board that wobbles, dining chairs that feel like they'll break with one wrong move, sofa, and arm chairs that have visible dirt and questionable stains. Again, this is all after they charge extra for 'cleaning". I don't think I'd be as annoyed if they didn't do this but if you're charging a daily pet cleaning fee, I expect a flawless room that doesn't have signs of previous pets! We've literally had to cover surfaces with towels to sit. - Concierge is great - they are a little less polished than the other places but I appreciate the staff effort and willingness to help overall and have done great with what we requested. Overall it's okay but wouldn't be my first choice if other options are available.

A generally good (not great) stay, but marred by noisy/inconsiderate guests and poor soundproofing

I recently stayed in the deluxe 2-bedrooms apartment at Grand Mercure Yongsan for multiple nights. I also stayed in the same configuration last year. Overall, the stay was good, not great, but marred by noisy and inconsiderate guests. As is customary in my reviews, my list of pros and cons is below. PROS: 1. Location = the location of the Grand Mercure Yongsan is great. It is connected by covered walkways to Yongsan Station, which is a major subway and train hub. It is also about a 10 minutes walk (not covered though) to Sinyongsan Station as well. For those traveling to and from Incheon Airport, take the airport limousine bus 6001 and the stop that is closest to the hotel is Sinyongsan Station. Then it is about a 10 minute walk. I am told there was an airport limousine bus 6030 that stopped right at the hotel (Seoul Dragon City stop) but that route is apparently temporarily suspended. But you may want to check online during your trip if 6030 service has resumed. 2. Connected mall = there is a huge shopping mall called iPark which is at the aforementioned Yongsan Station, connected by covered walkways to the hotel. This mall has a lot of dining options, a food court, and a large supermarket in the basement. It is thus very convenient. 3. Large, spacious, well-equipped suites = this is a serviced apartment hotel so suites are well-equipped with various appliances that you might need. Our suite had a kitchen with microwave/oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, cutlery and plates, a washer-dryer combo unit (note it does take many, many hours to complete a drying cycle, so make sure you leave plenty of time for laundry), and a clothes drying rack. 4. 24 hours convenience store connected to the hotel = if you take the elevator to the second floor, take the covered walkway to the adjacent Ibis hotel and there is a 24 hours convenience store (called CU) there. It’s very convenient to get drinks, snacks there if you’re staying at the Grand Mercure. 5. Friendly staff at front desk and concierge = the staff in the lobby at the front desk and concierge were friendly. They said hello to guests coming and going. CONS: 1. Poor sound-proofing and noisy, inconsiderate other guests = the worst and most unfortunate part of our stay was noisy & inconsiderate other guests. Coupled with poor sound-proofing this all led to difficulty getting basic sleep. In particular we were awakened one night by heavy pounding and vibrations (like heavy bass). This noise continued well past midnight for a while. Evidently, guests on a lower floor were blasting pounding pop music so loudly that floors above could hear. While the hotel staff eventually got them to quiet down, the hotel staff first offered to move us to another room to sleep. I rejected this solution because I didn’t want to move rooms in the middle of the night and why should the noisy guests breaking noise rules be the ones to be accommodated? That mentality is not correct. 2. Inconsistent housekeeping; cleanliness just average = housekeeping was a little bit inconsistent. One time, a pillow case was left on the bed (with being put back on the pillow). Other times, housekeeping was good. In general, I found cleanliness to be just average; many parts of the suite had dust and stains on the sofa and chairs. 3. Odors in the suite = our suite had areas which smelled like curry. I requested an air purifier which helped but did not fully get rid of the smell. All in all, I thought the stay and property was overall good. Would I stay again at the Grand Mercure Yongsan? The answer is probably yes, provided no more noise issues in the future and provided the cleanliness level is improved. I hope the hotel can be more proactive about solving and preventing noise issues. This is not a cheap property and it bills itself as a five star property. Not being able to get a basic nights sleep because of pounding pop music isn’t acceptable.

Front desk and concierge are so lovely and kind. They explain very well all you need to know about the hotel and if you don't really know where to go what to visit, they will recommand you some great place that i really appreciate. The view from high floor is so great, i really loved it. Also the breakfast was really good and so yummy. And finally i loved the fitness and swimming pool. I will for sure recommand this hotel! The staff provided world-class service from when we arrived to the moment we left. We had some issues getting the right-size room when we booked initially thru Chase Travel but the staff was extremely understanding and helped us resolve the issue. Several times throughout our stay (5nts), we had problems translating and using the equipment within the unit which were quickly addressed with helpful staff coming to explain things to us. Eden was the man and always had a kind, welcoming smile whatever/whenever these foreigners needed help.
