Not a 4-star hotel

Ocena na stronie TripAdvisor 2.0/5

Giulio T Opinia zatwierdzona w TripAdvisor

I want to start by saying the staff was helpful and kind, but the hotel is defiintely in bad shape. After I checked-in I was assign room 411. Upon inspection I found out thar there was no place to hang my clothes: the rail and hangers were missing. I went downstairs to told reception and I was given another room: 210. Although probably the same size, it looked smaller and the was a smell like it hadn't been used in a while, which is fair enough if it was kept as a "spare" room. I didn't have time to check the room because I was late, but I did notice a Henry hoover out in the corridor. I thought they may have used it to clean the room and thought nothing of it. When I came back late afternoon, I noticed that there was water coming up from the floor in the bathroom. Not much, but just enough to wet my socks. It was most definitely coming up while walking on it, so there was definitely some standing water underneath the boards. I complained again, and they moved me to room 205. The first night was fine, but in the morning I noticed, as many other has in these reviews, that the heating was broken. I was lucky the weather wasn't that cold (I know, December in Edinburgh, but it wasn't that cold, honestly) and the room was still ok. Still I mentioned it to the staff at reception in the morning on my way out. And when I came back in the afternoon it had indeed been fixed. But alas, later that evening, when I came back after dinner, it was broken again. Oh, and the Hnery hoover? It has been left in the corridor for the whole 3 days I was there. I don't know what's going on with this hotel but it's most definitely not a 4-star hotel.

£240 a Night for Cold Rooms, Dirty Bedding, and No Compensation

At £240 per night, excluding breakfast, I do not expect to arrive at a hotel at 3pm and first be given a room with a dirty pillow, dirty carpet and no heating. After changing to a clean room, we also found that there was no heating. The excuse was that maintenance were fixing it, and that it would be finished by the end of the day. By 7pm, the heating was still not fixed, and we were offered a heater. By the next morning, the heating was still not fixed, so I complained. I wanted a refund for the 2 remaining unused days and some compensation for sub-standard service. I managed to get the refund (we checked out), but no compensation as the disruption was "due to storm Bram", so therefore, "we are not able to offer compensation last night, as we believe we responded appropriately and took all reasonable steps to maintain guest comfort." Funnily enough, I looked back at reviews for this hotel in Tripadvisor, and saw that back in March this year there was another complaint about the heating... I think that for the price, the facilities need to be spotless, and if issues do occur, that there is some type of compensation. We will not be staying in another Mercure Hotel.

Disappointed..

Positives-The Mercure is a modern hotel, the bedroom and en-suite were nicely decorated, comfortable bed and pillows Negatives-heating in room wasn’t working,I rang reception re same, male receptionist said he can control it from his desk. Waited an hour , room still cold…rang reception again spoke to female receptionist who said there was a problem with heating in the hotel and maintenance were working on it. She asked did we require electric heater..middle of winter , freezing outside and inside!!We got the heater which took a while to heat the room..no apology issued by staff. I felt that if it were known that there was a problem with heating in hotel , they should have informed all the guests and supplied heaters and extra duvets…not wait for guests to ask for heaters etc On the 3rd day of our stay , I asked again is heating fixed..they said no and offered an extra duvet!! Also there was a problem with water in the room..toilet wouldn’t flush and pressure in tap poor. Contacted reception, was informed there was a burst pipe. In fairness that was repaired in a few hours. Our stay began to feel like a stay in Faulty Towers😂 Wouldn’t stay in Mecure hotel again, it wasn’t good value for money..paid €680 for 3nights b&b , so it wasn’t t cheap.

I had a genuinely positive experience during my 3-night stay at the Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket. After reading a few negative reviews beforehand, I wasn’t sure what to expect — but my stay was excellent from start to finish. Clean, comfortable, accessible, and supported by a great team. I would happily stay here again. 🛏️ Room (Room 102) Clean, comfortable and well maintained Bed was very comfortable — slept well every night No noise issues at all, both inside and outside the hotel Accessibility in Room 102 was excellent Wi-Fi worked fine for everyday use Overall, a quiet and comfortable space to relax in 🚿 Bathroom Spotless on arrival and kept clean throughout Towels changed daily Good water pressure and temperature Exactly what you want from a hotel bathroom — simple, clean and functional 👩‍💼 Service & Staff Exceptional customer service — staff were consistently helpful and went above and beyond Check-in was smooth and efficient Check-out was seamless The hotel stored my suitcase after checkout, which made exploring the city much easier Staff created a welcoming and supportive environment from start to finish 🍽️ Breakfast Good selection of options Food was fresh, hot and regularly topped up Dining area was clean and well managed 📍 Location Perfect location for sightseeing and exploring the city Easy walking distance to key attractions, restaurants and transport links Ideal base for a city break 💷 Value for Money Great value for the quality of service, comfort and convenience Would definitely consider it again for future trips to Edinburgh ✔ Final Thoughts I highly recommend the Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket for solo travellers, families and work trips. The service, cleanliness, accessibility and comfort made it an excellent choice for my stay — and I genuinely don’t recognise the negative reviews I’d seen beforehand. My experience was extremely positive.

Need not be a bad hotel but we hated it. Two floors of rooms are below ground level. Ours was one of them. Our view at the door was of dirty laundry and our view at the window was of a subterranean stone wall. The room was tiny. My wife and I had no room to maneuver and there was room to have only one suitcase open at a time. The hotel staff were unimpressed with our request for another room. The other big complaint was the food. Breakfast was identical every day, and two days the hotel was filled with tour groups that swamped the personnel. 45 minutes to be seated. Was booked in for four nights and suffered through it. Last night in Edinburgh we stayed at a Hampton about a block away. Much nicer and larger room, food better, service quality far greater. Several nicer hotels in the area. We will never stay in a Mercure again.
