Hotel Mercure Macon Bord de Saone 4 gwiazdki

We loved this hotel on our journey down to the South of France. Lovely staff. Nice big car park. Perfect location for walking the dog down the side of the mighty Saone river. Good place to stop. We found a fabulous place to eat and buy the great local Macon wine, just go to the river, turn right and about 300m turn right and cross the road, it is right in front of you called the Maison Maconnaire des Vins. Really good and so close to the hotel.

The location of this hotel is very near the city center, about 1km distance, with access to several restaurants. Veins so close to the river was an invitation to walk/run by riverside at anytime of day. Breakfast had several types of fruits, juices, tees, eggs and yogurts. There were two machines for coffee. Service was friendly and the rooms were good.

Personnel very pleasant and efficient. Dinner for six and each dish was served to the correct person without asking who ordered what! Room very comfortable but a bit tight for a couple, particularly the bathroom. Disadvantage was toilet in the bathroom not a separate room. Location excellent right by the river with walks in both directions. Disadvantage was no public transport to the centre of Macon which was almost 2 kms distant and a pleasant walk along the river. Taxis cost 10€ to town.

Nice and quiet position by the river Soane, but that is the only good thing about this hotel. No, the staff was also very pleasant, not complaint there. And although the room was clean, the bed was rock hard, we had to place the duvet under the bottom sheet for a bit of softness, but that was not enough to ensure a restful sleep.the pillows were also very smelly, indicating they had not been changed for months. The other thing was the dinner, it was disgusting, the fish was badly prepared and not fresh, the so called vegetables were swimming in a greasy sauce and the creme brulée was a dish of stodge with a hint of brulée on top, straight from the fridge. That is not creme brulée. One of the very young girls working there even confessed that if guests ask about the restaurant she directs them elsewhere. That says it all!! But the worse thing, it allows dogs, and the dining room was full of them. In my view, it is a no no.

Booked this with some treperdation on the way home from italy, judging by the reviews below. However everything here now seems to be sorted out. Pool clean and well used. Child lock now working. Parking easy and free. Communal room reception , bar, terrace all newly decorated. Staff mostly young and new but tried their best and the odd small issue like served me a pint but didn't know how much it was , was all sorted asap. Good in the restaurant at night was decent and breakfast was good. Walked the dog in the morning by the river which was nice. Room on the 2nd floor was refurbished and pleasing. All in all well done to the management and staff here who seem to have addressed the issues this hotel has previously had
