5 stars . Nice Ambiente. Well trained staff. Nice quite rooms . Absolute noise cancelling windows , very nice for „ Nightowls „ like me . ( comes from Job ). Breakfast delicious. Staff smiles and serves you nearly every wish. The lady operating the hot orders ( eggs etc) „chapo“ —very nice done and very tasteful. Selection very nice and sufficient. Rooms are quite , bed relaxing , bathroom nice and modern. Bit dark cause in rooms, i had 115,215,315 etc only one fully open window to small balcony , still sometimes its very dark and smells bit weired . But housekeeping very attentive and clean . Reception is magnific … waiters and other staff fast , effective , well behaved and super friendly . Very happy with this hotel .

We were on our way back from the Brittany coast and we stopped in Rennes for one night, staying at the Balthazar. Hotel was a bit tricky to drive to because of street closures and restrictions. Hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. Because we were leaving very early in the morning, we couldn’t use the valet parking service but one of the bellmen accompanied and directed me to a nearby self-park garage. I considered this going above and beyond. We had lunch in the hotel restaurant and thought the food was quite good. The rooms and public spaces are very stylish and clean. Rooms were a little on the small side but well lit and furnished. The WC in our room was separated by several steps from the room with the sink and shower. A bit unusual but in no way a deal-breaker. We would have been happy to spend more time in Rennes at the Balthazar.

Wonderful modern hotel in central part of Rennes; very close to the old town and railway station. Rooms are somewhat small, but this was totally compensated by their spa facility, which was a great way to relax after sightseeing/before dinner.

Establishment under siege

First impressions were not good. I was dropped off by a colleague to what looked like a bankrupted shut down establishment. I arrived early and fortunately given a room. For some reason the AC was maxed out and room was freezing which was easily rectified although it took some time. Everything has to be booked including swimming pool and restaurant. I took a trip to Saint-Malo and arrived back quite late. I tried to book a table for one only to be turned away. I have never experienced being a guest in a hotel and turned away from the restaurant, so this was a first for me. I was offered a bar menu which was eye -wateringly expensive, hamburger 26 euro. Unfortunately I didn’t feel it appropriate to eat in the bar, which is a thoroughfare for the nice restaurant. I am not sure how they have it so wrong.

We stayed in a first-floor room with a little terrace of our own. Was idyllic on that terrace except for when the air conditioning unit on the adjacent roof was humming and dumping hot air on us. Such a shame because everything else here was first class. The staff. The restaurant. The courtyard bar. The location near one of the best wine and food streets in Rennes. Absolutely would stay here again but might not bother with the terrace room next time.
