An unsatisfactory choice

As we had an early flight, we thought we would stay close to the airport. We booked before we arrived, but the check-in process was cold & dismissive. I requested a high floor with a view of the airport. We were allocated a room on the roundabout entry to the airport precinct on the 1st floor. We entered the room which had a heavy smell of cigarette smoke from the previous occupiers. The doona on the bed was thin with all the padding pushed down to the feet. The hotel was isolated & there was no ability to shop for some basics, Our experience was less than satisfactory. We requested a shuttle drop-off but were told the shuttle bus outside was not operating.

Dear GregB842 Thank you for your review. We always strive to deliver excellent guest service so I'm sincerely apologetic we didn't meet your expectations on this occasion. In response to your concerns, whilst we always try to accommodate guest requests, we, like other hotels, cannot guarantee them. We do not actually have rooms with a view of the airport and do not advertise as such. I'm sorry that you smelt cigarette smoke however the entire hotel is smoke-free. I find it odd that you didn't report any smell and yet gave us 4 stars for cleanliness. The same with your doona. If your room was that unsatisfactory you could only give us 1 star for your stay, you should have let Reception know so that we could room move you. In regard to the shuttle, we do not advertise this service however there are a couple of options for guests to get to the airport. We obviously can't change our location as we are an airport hotel and, in my experience, all airport hotels are isolated to some extent. In comparison, I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find any shops near Sydney Airport. Everything we have available and that we can offer is on our website. May I suggest if you were looking for all of the things you say we didn't deliver, you perhaps should conduct more research before you book. Thank you for your comments. Kind regards

Very handy as close to the airport. Greeted at Reception. Room nice and clean, large windows, nice bathroom with environmental products. There is a restaurant and bar area where we had dinner, rally good food and they also do room service meals. Restaurant staff and chef were great with my allergies. Check in and check out was easy. Reception obtained a taxi for us very quickly.

Convenient and Quiet

This Mercure Hotel is not too far from the highway travelling south and in the Accor group so has the Accor benefits. It was convenient and quiet even though it is right next to the airport. It has double glazing so you don't hear a any planes. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The staff were helpful and friendly. It had a gated carpark. It was a little more expensive than we are used to but it was what it was at the last minute.

Marcus was simply impeccable with his customer service and accommodated every one of my needs. I travel a lot for work, and without hesitation , I would say Marcus has easily been one of the nicest humans I have met on the front desk.

Great spot. Triple glazed windows so no airport noise. Absolutely terrific food! If I lived in Newcastle I would make a point of going there for dinner. The staff were polite, friendly and hard working.
