Pricey stay ruined by filthy sofa bed, bad smells, and zero soundproofing

We stayed at Aparthotel Adagio Access Le Havre Les Docks as a family of three with an 11-year-old child for two nights, paying €225.50. This felt quite expensive, especially as we could have stayed at the nearby Novotel for the same price, but we chose this aparthotel for the flexibility of having a kitchenette and a base to sleep while exploring the area. The price included breakfast for two adults and a free breakfast for our child. Check-in went smoothly. The lady at the service desk was kind and helpful and checked us into Apartment 505 on the 5th floor. The lobby area is quirky and modern and also serves as the breakfast area in the morning. Breakfast was okay but very limited, with few options to choose from and what felt like basic supermarket-style food. There was the option to boil or fry your own egg on a communal pan, which wasn’t particularly appealing. There is on-site parking, but it was fully booked during our stay. We had to use paid street parking outside, which was inconvenient as it was limited to two hours at a time. The apartment itself was the biggest disappointment. On entering Apartment 505, it was very stuffy and had an awful odour throughout. The layout included a separate bedroom, an open living area with a sofa bed, and a shower room with a toilet. The sofa bed was not made up, which was surprising as we booked for a family with a child. It was stained and smelled strongly of rotting garbage. The mattress was heavily stained and completely worn out, and the bed squeaked with the slightest movement. Neither my wife nor I got much sleep as a result. On top of this, at around 7am we could clearly hear people from the apartment next door as if they were in our room, highlighting very poor soundproofing. The following morning we had breakfast, packed up, and left a day early. We simply could not face spending another night in this apartment. While the staff were friendly and the idea of an aparthotel is good, the poor hygiene, unpleasant odour, unacceptable condition of the sofa bed, and lack of soundproofing completely ruined our stay. For the price paid, we expected far better. We would not return and cannot recommend this property, especially for families.

My sleep quality was poor. This was because there is no air-conditioning. We were there on September 9th. I would hate to think how hot it gets in the summer months. I left the window open. There was a bit of shouting on the street for a short while at around 02:30. It started to rain later and at 05:25 I was awoken by what I think was rain dropping intermittently onto some surface. Sounded like someone tapping a drum. So I had to close the window. Which didn’t help the temperature in the room, or my sleep. Apart from that, the hotel is excellent. Friendly receptionist. Secure parking. Spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Fridge. Microwave and cooking utensils. We had a delicious dinner at Bistrot Grands Bassins nearby.

Dirty, filthy hotel

I don’t know how other people have rated this hotel 5 stars. The rooms are absolutely filthy and dated.silver fish in the cupboards. I woke up most days with bites on me. The Wi-Fi didn’t work for my full 5 weeks stay. Got sick of asking at reception. The blonde haired lady at reception is so rude when asking her all I got was “I’ve told you we are working on it”. Would never stay here again even if you paid me. AVOID!!!!!

I'm still surprised if everything was so bad that you didn't leave for 5 weeks. If I were you I would have urgently sought another Hotel. Rest assured we will not pay you to come back. I stay in the hotel for 6 weeks. For a long stay it was a perfect appart. The staff is really helpfull and frendly, the room was ok. Its in a good zone, near a shopping center. The room was clean and everything worked

Where do I begin- for the first time in my life travelling Europe I didn't have to go visit the room to avoid being put somewhere near hell- Then have to ask for another room to have a normal room. But that's beside the point- we were actually in COVID Hell because we were leaving the UK for our retirement in the EU- Our yacht, supposed to be done by the English sometime in July, now wears on and on in this limbo of "it'll get done soon, not to worry" course we're worried for some 8 lingering dreadful months with our lovely dog "Lilly" just as so- Note: Never believe the promises of an Englishman, or believe only after multiplying any timescales by a factor of four or five We finally had to just leave the boat behind (not too worry sir) and scarper for the border, barely getting into the EU before BREXIT. That's where the Staff at Adagio ( Claire and Alex) were the real stars here. They changed our booking dates three or maybe five times- no charge- friendly easy no dramas . Just when England got locked down and we were afraid our retirement hopes of floating around the south of France drinking umbrella drinks for the next ten years were hopelessly dashed???? The Adagio staff really helped us out, wrote letters ( that looked very Frenchy and Important) provided billing statements and other "accompli documents aplenty" until we were most assured. We zipped right through the border- no probs- When we got here they stayed late, gave us a great room with a view and the place is just Fab... Right near the train station and great shopping nearby, the grocery store just a nip down the road while our "Family Truckster" (soon to be shipped to Australia for a ten year wait) is safe and comfy in gated, covered parking at a reasonable price. (oh and the window actually opens!!! So you can breathe some nice sea air instead of those stuffy places that open a crack- why don't other hotels do that? What am I going to do ? Jump? ) Absolument fantastique!
