I have stayed in several Novotels before and never had such a bad experience. I firstly stayed for a work conference for 2 nights on level 5 and started to feel unwell due to the toxic paint fumes as they stated they were renovating and painting the walls. However maybe they should have closed the rooms around where they were painting until the paint fumes subsided. The bar fridge cupboard doors and fridge doors also moved around and were difficult to close. After my work conference I had booked a partial ocean view room for 2 nights and again was told by a painter as I entered to be careful of touching the wet paint and felt sick from the fumes. There was a strong mouldy wet smell in the room and the balcony was looking down on an office block with staff looking up at me on the balcony and it was also directly opposite a carpark with garbage in it. The carpet was damp and I think that was the cause of the mouldy wet smell. I went back down to reception and explained the room issues and was given a downgrade to a room with a window with a view facing other buildings. Reception said the balcony rooms were booked which surprised me as it was midweek a Wednesday. He said they could however give me a complimentary cheese platter and he would come up to the room to assess it. Reception came up to the room and he said he could smell the mouldy smell also and he sprayed some room spray which didn't do much to stop the mouldy wet smell. I stayed in the room for the 2 nights and the floor was damp. When I left the hotel I explained the issues again and explained I thought it was the ocean spray when you open the balcony doors causing the carpet to be wet and the strong mouldy smell. Hoping they rectify the issues in this room 327 and also look into giving people rooms around where they are painting due to the strong fumes.
