Very straight forward booking and arrivals. Found room very clean with everything working. The Hotel has a great location with just a short walk to many places to shop, eat and the beach is just next door.

Dear General Manager, This was my first time in your hotel in Novotel Newcastle Beach. When I checked into the hotel , 13/06 check in the front office manager, Mr Abdulah El- Ghozze advised me that he had the reservation and my credit card had been charged. The issue that arose then that I was using The NSW travel vouchers and as I had pre-booked he was unable to change the charge. This was despite the fact that when I booked my reservation I had indicated that I would be using the vouchers. The Manager was not prepared to to put the matter on hold and check the matter and get back to me. My understanding is that when I had made the reservation my card would only be debited once I had confirmed the pricing details. The matter was only solved by me agreeing that I would use the credit in the hotel. If I had pursued the matter it would have moved towards a confrontation with the manager which alarmed me. A further difficulty arose at breakfast when the manager had failed to Advise the staff, as he said he would, that we would be having Breakfast in the hotel.Fortunately your staff at the breakfast sorted this matter out without a problem. That these problems arose was a gross inconvenience as I had wanted to dine out that night at a local restaurant and really did not want to use the $100 credit (in lieu) of the travel vouchers. My issue is that the desk manager was not offering to escalate the matter to have it resolved or check with reservations. If he had done so the matter could have easily resolved.Yes he was polite but dogmatic on the issue and that made me take exception to his manner. As a consequence I feel reluctant to re-visit your hotel or recommend it to my friends in the future. I am unhappy and I would like you to know that I felt the attitude of the manager did not reflect well on him or the hotel and certainly not what I have experienced in other hotels. We have always had a great experience at Newcastle Novotel but unfortunately the standard appeared to have dropped. On arrival to our room, our air conditioning seemed to not be working. A reception member attended and assisted. We advised we were happy with the room. The staff member advised that would check if we could and get back to us. We waited 30mins for a reply before deciding we'd just unpack in allocated room. Nobody got back to us over our two night stay. We then discovered our exhaust fan in the bathroom didnt work and also there was no physical mini bar although there was a price list. The room location adjacent to conference room kitchen also was not ideal.
