We stayed at the Pullman hotel for 10 nights in the penthouse. Whilst the Pullman Sea Temple at Port Douglas is a very beautiful property. We found the service did not match up to the rating of the of the property. Drinks were nice at the pool, 3 of the staff were nice but the majority did not as nice. Lunch on the first day was disappointing, thick tasteless pizza which we thought was frozen and then heated the poke bowl was $37 with no sauce plain rice and just tasteless. We waited 40 mins for the food and the restaurant was empty. For the price of the food we expected better. Our kitchen bin was not emptied for three days. We had to pull the bin out of the cupboard every day so that the cleaners would notice it. Our room did not did not get service until 330 or 4pm every day. The Smart TV did not connect to the Wi-Fi so we used our laptop to watch movies. There was no shampoo or conditioner and also the body wash ran out. The bar tender was rude to my Daughter. They gave us $100 credit for all of this but we would have preferred to have had 5 star service. We found the restaurant staff to be unhelpful and felt they did not want to go out of their way. So because of all of this we would not return.

Great property - walking distance from the beach, great pool and hot tubs. Our room was solid; would have appreciated regular housekeeping without prompting and a more thorough clean of the room. Additionally, in room washer / dryer were inconsistent in functioning.

What a beautiful hotel, from the moment we walked in Maya and the team made us feel at home. The staff were amazing, family had a great time and my wife loved her massage treatments. Will be back.

Disappointing Decline – No Longer a Five-Star Experience

I stayed at Sea Temple Port Douglas earlier this month and was genuinely disappointed, particularly given how highly this property was regarded in the past. The restaurant experience was extremely poor. The food was basic to the point of being inedible, which is unacceptable for a resort that still markets itself as five-star. We also tried room service, which took over an hour to arrive and was delivered cold. This alone suggests serious operational issues. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there. The overall atmosphere felt unmanaged. Staff were frequently standing around talking rather than attending to guests. Beer cans and plastic cups were left around the pool area for days, and sun loungers were often left in disarray, never being reset or cleaned each morning. These are basic hospitality standards that simply weren’t met. What stood out most was the apparent lack of management presence. There was no sense of oversight, urgency, or pride in maintaining the resort. Sea Temple no longer resembles the polished, premium experience it offered a few years ago. This property has enormous potential, but something needs to change immediately. Until standards, service, and management improve, it cannot be recommended as a five-star resort.

We arrived at Pullman Sea Temple Port Douglas on a Saturday. Over the course of four days, the main pool steadily deteriorated — from slightly cloudy to dark green and, in appearance, resembling a swamp. Despite this, resort staff repeatedly assured guests that the water was “safe to swim.” The pool largely remained accessible, with limited and poorly positioned signage. Even during brief periods when the pool was reportedly closed, signs were placed in common or corridor areas, which was ineffective for a resort dominated by swim-out rooms. As a result, many guests continued using the pool directly outside their accommodation. What I found particularly disappointing was the attitude taken by resort staff when concerns were raised. At one point, it was explicitly stated to us that we were “not their customer” because our accommodation had been privately rented. This was said openly and left a very poor impression, especially given the ongoing issues impacting the stay. During the stay, I developed what a medical professional described as folliculitis, a skin condition that can be associated with exposure to unclean water. I cannot state definitively that the pool caused this, but the timing and circumstances were concerning. By contrast, the private accommodation owner was significantly more professional and empathetic. They acknowledged the challenges we faced — including the lack of a usable pool for much of the stay — and, while limited in what they could do, they did provide a small amount of compensation, which was appreciated. For a resort positioned as a premium destination, the lack of transparency, empathy, and guest-focused care was deeply disappointing. Based on our experience, I would not return or recommend this property.
