We stayed for three nights in January at the Peppers Beach Club. This time of year is the low season for Port Douglas and we got a good rate on the room. We really enjoyed out stay. There is free parking for guests and the location is good as it is a flat walk into the town of Port Douglas with all of the shops and restaurants, including a full supermarket. The hotel is modern and fresh. It is called a 'beach club'' but it is not a large style resort that the name might imply. Instead it is two blocks of rooms and apartments on either side of a pool that is made to look like a lagoon. You can see from the pictures the layout of the hotel Although the hotel was nice - it was smaller than we expected and meant that many of the facilities that come with a five star rating were missing. We had no complaints about our room - it was clean and exactly as described and all of the features you would expect. The bed was comfortable and the soundproofing was good. There was only one restaurant at the hotel and this also doubled as the poolside bar. The breakfast served at this restaurant was high quality but the options were a bit limited reflecting the scale of the hotel. The menu was the same for lunch and dinner and was a bit basic - it was fine for a casual poolside lunch with some drinks but I wouldn't really recommend it for dinner. The gym was a real let down. It was clearly designed by someone who has never used a gym. It had a few pieces of cardio equipment, a lateral pull-down machine and some weights that would be more suited as paper weights on a desk rather than in a gym for exercise. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay. Port Douglas is a wonderful place to visit.

Great Holiday Resort, Relaxing and Perfect Location!

My teenage son and I had lovely time at Peppers! We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment on level 3 and found this apartment both private and comfortable. The apartment was both fully equipped with everything a family needs for a longer stay, along with the bbq on the front balcony which came in very handy, plus had a fantastic view on the lagoon pool. Breakfast was fantastic, the poolside menu and cocktails were also delicious. Staff were all very helpful and customer service was spot on. The location of the resort is very central, only a short walk to the beach and Main Street making it very easy to walk to dinner on the nights we decided to eat out. This resort is very family friendly so lots of young kids playing and splashing about, although the resort staff did intervene when the noise got too loud to make sure all guests were happy and relaxed! Gym is slightly under equipped with only smaller weights which was the only negative for my 19 year old son that loves to workout each day, but the location of the resort made it easy to walk the National park every morning instead! We will definitely be staying again when we return to Port Douglas.

What a big regret!

This was the most frustrating and upsetting travel experiences I’ve ever had. Checking into a place you’ve been looking forward to on New Year’s Day should feel exciting, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. I booked a spa suite (king bed) for 3 nights through Webjet at $1300. Admittedly, I made an error by not including my 9-year-old child in the booking, but I declared this at check-in and asked if an extra bed was possible. If not, I was fine with her sharing the bed with us. I also informed reception that we couldn’t stay for the 3rd night due to a change in our travel plans. The receptionist, Marta, was polite and understanding, but she needed to refer my concerns to the manager. Unfortunately, the interaction with the manager was incredibly disappointing. The manager then informed me we couldn’t stay in the room I booked because it was “only for 2 people,” and insisted we upgrade to a 2-bedroom suite for an additional $500. I was shocked. I explained that my daughter is only 9, not an adult, but the manager replied dismissively, “She’s still a person.” She also told me she can’t just give me the keys and not give the owners money for the upgraded room! I found this decision unreasonable. We have frequently travelled and checked in to hotels / accomodation and never had a problem having our daughter with us in the same room. She gave the option for me to book another spa room - but didn’t really found this to be a good option as we would not be able to stay together as a family. She then suggested we stay in the two bedroom the 1st night, then move to the one bedroom the second night - but this option meant the inconvenience of not getting settled into your room and the added burden of packing and unpacking to move rooms. I asked if the unused 3rd night could be credited toward the 2-bedroom suite fee, but the manager refused, stating it wasn’t possible. Instead, she explained the $500 fee is a discounted “upgrade”, claiming the 2-bedroom suite usually costs $1100 per night. So the total cost for our 2 night stay worked out to be $1800 ($900 per night) and even with breakfast included, the upgraded room was definitely not worth the price—it was far from extraordinary. When I asked for a refund so I could stay elsewhere, I was told this was not possible as the booking was non-refundable. Frustrated and emotional, I reluctantly paid the $500 to avoid further disruption to our plans, but the entire experience left me in tears. The check in process took about 30 minutes. I was then given drink vouchers as the upgraded room wasn’t ready but the wait for the upgraded room ended up being over an hour. While I understand that policies exist, the lack of compassion and poor customer service from the manager was extremely appalling and deeply disheartening. As a manager myself, I believe empathy in such situations makes all the difference. We were tossing between staying at the Sheraton or Peppers and this experience left me with a very negative impression of Peppers Hotel. I deeply regret choosing this accommodation whilst in Port Douglas. I would never return and cannot recommend this accommodation to anyone.

As mentioned in your review, unfortunately, the wrong room type was booked therefore this was in breach of the QLD fire regulation for maximum occupancy as the room by SQM is too small. Whilst we completely understand this is frustrating and upsetting for yourself and do not wish for this to be the start of your holiday, we are required to follow the QLD regulations as guest safety is a priority. The location is wonderful, a block back from beautiful four mile beach and a five minute walk to an array of restaurants, bars & shops. Highly recommended.

I noticed attention to detail everywhere and the staff were not just happy, but engaging and clearly well trained. The whole complex looks so good and enjoyed standing on the balcony every evening looking out to beautiful pool all lit up and there were always staff cleaning and available to help. It made the holiday very complete and satisfying. Whoever is the manager of this place deserves a medal.
