Disappointing stay and poor buffet, but saved by the Chef

Our stay was unfortunately quite unpleasant. We felt neglected by the general staff, and the room experience did not meet expectations. As vegetarians, we struggled significantly with the buffet for both dinner and breakfast—the options were very limited and hard to eat. ​However, I must give a huge thank you to the restaurant staff and the Chef. When they realized we were struggling with the food, they were incredibly supportive and specially prepared vegetarian pizza and pasta for us. They truly saved our meals, even though the rest of the stay was a letdown.

Make the most of it!

Staying here first for our trip meant that we had to understand that even though we booked a family room, children had to be paid for separately per pax. That included for the amenities as well as the breakfast and dinner buffet package to match our original offer from our booking platform. I need to disclose now that it was a misunderstanding on our part regarding this, and made slightly more difficult with a slight communication barrier between the receptionist and us, but it was sorted out amicably at the end. Once we arrived at the top, we then found out our rooms had been changed and were now given 2 other rooms instead of a family room (“upgrade”). Was it a negative? Maybe yes maybe no depending how you looked at it. We just elected to accept it as we had 3 rooms with another family and now in the same building so we took it as a net positive. The weather was good first day, then rainy and foggy for the second, and the bundling of theme park entrance fees with the hotel package is a very good way of ensuring everyone is occupied. The overall area is very scenic and the heated pool was a very enjoyable experience for the whole family. Swimming warmly inside while looking out at cold foggy weather…surreal! Would I come again? Yes, now that I understand the booking system/packages. The kids loved it, and sometimes that is all that matters. Tips: 1- understand that paying for a cable car ride is the only way to go up, if you booked a stay at Mercure French Village, there is a slight discount. 2- if you booked off a platform, understand you will need to pay for kids/extra bed/cable car ride; and depending on your package, I would take at least one buffet dinner package. 3- if you have kids, I would highly recommend 2 nights. This is because of the Alpine coaster, they shut down in foggy-rainy-windy weather. Staying 2 nights means you double your chances of being able to ride it. 4- travelling around this time means monitoring the weather forecast daily. Once up there, if it is sunny, immediately do your outdoor activities first (Especially the Alpine coaster) and taking photos around the park and the Golden Hands Bridge (ps the ride there is included if you are checked in) 5-check for extra deals at restaurants for following their social media. We scored a free coconut coffee just for liking their page. Little things and all that…
