After a quick check in, I proceeded to the sixth floor. I had taken a taxi costing 8 Euro from Strasbourg railway station as it was night upon arrival, but the hotel is easy to reach via line B of the excellent tram network. It is poorly lit, lacking a prominent streetside sign. Unlike some other reviewers, my room's carpet was clean. However the room was pretty basic: two tables and chairs, a Queen bed with a clean sheet and doona, a choice of pillows, wardrobe and two small bedside tables with lamps. WiFi was slow to upload photos and annoyingly, the log in code changed daily, which was not explained at checkin. The bathroom was nicer than the bedroom but water pressure in the shower could do with improvement. There was a microwave, crockery and cutlery for those wishing to dine in, plus a good bar fridge. Traffic noise was audible on my first night. Reception sold snacks at exorbitant prices. There was an ATM in the next parallel street, two left turns from the hotel. There did not appear to be nearby restaurants. This hotel is functional rather than a welcoming 'home'.

Lack of maintenance, staff training and low guest experience (please read)

We stayed in room 1708. As we arrived at the evening to take a shower, the whose was broken and we could not take a shower. Next day, early morning we called the front desk and Patricia, our shift receptionist claimed there was not technician, there was not other room available and we could take a shower at the reception. I could not express not only the lack of maintenance of the hotel but the lack of training from the management to attent claims. It is basic to have the shower and toilet working. At the end, we could have a shower at the handicap room at the 2nd floor. SURPRISINGLY as we picked up out baggage in the afternoon, at the front desk there was another guest claiming about the same issue and the same room 1708. It is incredible how the lack of interest and attention to a customer. Front desk assigned the room again not even reporting the issue and leaving the problem to their team on the afternoon shift. Another points: The hotel location is misleading. Indeed there is another adagio closer and better located near Petite France. Also, in the neighborhood there is very little choice of services. It was hard to find a bakery. Again room 1708 needs a deeper cleaning of the kitchen. It seems that the bell is dirty as it smells as you enter in the room. Definitely recommend not only to basic do maintenance (cleaning walls for example - we found a mosquito squashed by the toilet from the previous guest) Air-conditioning is equality in bad condition. Strasbourg was above 34 degrees in August, we expected to have some comfort in the room.

A youth hostel in disguise

We arrived to find it was not at all as described. There was no soundproofing and we were put in a room next to at least 12 teenage boys and loads of other teenagers around the place so imagine it was being used for a school trip. If we'd wanted to stay in a youth hostel we would have booked one. The aircon didn't work and we couldn't have the window open as it was noisy outside and not secure as the room was on the ground floor by a communal area. We asked to change room but was told no other rooms were available but there were rooms available on your website. We left the hotel after being told no other rooms were available and stayed in a hotel down the road. I went to check out of the adagio the next morning and was offered another room and the man on reception was surprised his colleague had told us no other rooms were available. By this point we had already booked and paid for the other hotel so he refunded us for 4 nights of our stay but we were still left out of pocket for the first night. The member of staff who checked us in really did not care that our room was unsuitable and said nothing when I said we were going to find an alternative hotel for the night and had to carry our heavy bags down the road after 11pm. It was such a disappointing start to our holiday.

We never stayed in an Adagio before but if they are all like this….. We had no water in the room on the first afternoon and were not told when we checked in. The room was very small and had a smelly carpet. One of the lights in the bathroom was broken. My reading light was half loose from the wall. The bathroom was terrible, old and with stains. To park the car you need a code for the gate. When you arrive one person needs to go to reception to get this while the other needs to stay double parked outside on a very busy street. What a horrible system. Checking in took very long because the reception took a phone call the middle of it. Very rude. There is no cleaning, only after a stay if a week or more. There was only one roll of toilet paper. How does this work when you stay longer? The airconditioning only goes as low as 24 degrees and shuts off when you open a door or window. It does not go on automatically, you need to turn it on yourself. This was nowhere described in the room. The location is not too great either. 15 minutes walk to petit France and 30 minutes to the cathedral.

This was the perfect place for us to stay in Strassburg: close to the train station, only about a ten minute walk; friendly and helpful staff; modern and immaculately clean; good Wi-Fi; and very close to the Barrage Vauban, Petite France and other sights. We shall certainly look for more aparthotels in the chain during our trip.
