Nice location but grossly overpriced

Room very nice. Had free drink under Accor programme - undrinkable house wine the only alcoholic option - not what is expected. Chablis extortionately priced and served with ice as it was warm ! £25 per night to use hotel car park - disgraceful.
Disappointed and mislead

On arrival our room was not ready, but when allocated it was nothing like the room on the web listing. The Classic room on the listing was modern, spacious, had a walk in shower and Illy coffee machine. Our room was small, pokey and had neither the walk in shower or Illy coffee machine. The room was large enough for one person and dated. I had to ask reception for some toilet roll and told the lady on reception that it wasn,t the room on the web page and didn't have the coffee machine. She said it was a Classic room and they don't have coffee machines. I showed her the listing and she just said I will tell my manager because that is wrong. The restaurant was not open and the bar was pretty poor. Apart from the reception area the rest of the hotel was pretty tired. If I had known this beforehand I would not have booked this hotel.

We booked sea view room and had fabulous weather, so was justified. However, thought we woke to a sea mist, but this was due to the windows needing a clean! It was 2nd floor, so possibly a problem. Hotel had lovely character. Due to Covid, our room was not made up. Not an issue, except we ran out of bathroom items very quickly. Would have been nice if they told us when checking in, or left double amount in the room. Position is a slow 25 minute walk from the station and right by the BA tower, which was excellent for us. Room was small and did not have any drawers, so could be an issue for longer stays, but was comfortable and we slept well. Lovely walk-in shower, but water was slow to drain. Overall enjoyed our stay and would return.
Excellent Night Away

The staff throughout our stay were very friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and perfect for a night in Brighton. I would have loved to spend time in the hotel's bar but understandably it is currently closed. Luckily though the hotel is just a short stroll away from everything Brighton has to offer.

Having stayed at other Mercure hotels elsewhere and enjoyed the experience, frankly I will not be staying again. The room was small, basic with no draw space whatsoever for clothes. I asked for another bigger room with a bath, none was forthcoming - a seafront upgrade was offered at an extra £40 a night. I didn’t actually care about the view, just a comfortable room. There was a leak from the bathroom basin which came out to the ‘hall’ which was bubbling the wallpaper and seeping out onto the carpet. Outside the common space to the rooms beyond the entrance was in need of maintenance with common parts dirty. The breakfasts were very basic indeed and a very low standard. The only saving grace was the breakfast staff who were very obliging and courteous within the constraints they were functioning. All round a very poor low quality experience which I will not be repeating.
